Early Life and Youth Football
Robert David Keane grew up in Tallaght, Dublin. He began playing football with a local club called Fettercairn. At age 10, he joined Crumlin United, where his talent was noticed early on. He also played Gaelic football until he was 15.
Keane received offers from big clubs like Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers. He chose Wolves because he felt it would be easier to join their first team. He moved to Wolverhampton in July 1996, just before his 16th birthday, and joined their youth squad.
Club Career Highlights
Starting at Wolves
Keane quickly moved up through the youth teams at Wolves. He made his first professional appearance at 17 in August 1997, scoring two goals. In his next season, he was the club's top scorer with 16 goals. His great performances for Wolves and Ireland attracted attention from bigger clubs.
Moving to Coventry City
In 1999, Keane was sold to Premier League club Coventry City for a large fee, which was a record for a teenager in Britain at the time. He had a fantastic start, scoring two goals in his first game. He played a key role in Coventry's attacking team, scoring 12 goals in 34 games.
Time in Italy with Inter Milan
After his impressive season at Coventry, Keane joined Italian club Inter Milan in July 2000. However, his time there was short. The manager who signed him was soon replaced, and the new manager did not need Keane. In December 2000, he was loaned to Leeds United. Keane played 14 games for Inter, scoring three goals.
Playing for Leeds United
Keane started well at Leeds, scoring nine goals in 14 games. Leeds then made his loan move permanent in May 2001. However, his next season was not as successful, and he scored fewer goals. Leeds also faced financial problems and had to sell many players. Keane left Leeds for Tottenham Hotspur in 2002.
First Spell at Tottenham Hotspur
Early Success (2002–2005)
When Robbie Keane joined Tottenham, his manager, Glenn Hoddle, believed he would be a perfect fit for the club. Keane had a great debut, helping Spurs win 3–2. He quickly became Tottenham's top scorer, including a fantastic hat-trick against Everton.
In the 2003–04 season, Keane's goals were vital in keeping Tottenham in the Premier League. He scored another hat-trick against Wolves and a last-minute penalty against Arsenal. He was Tottenham's top scorer again with 16 goals.
The 2004–05 season was a bit harder for him, even though he scored 17 goals. He often had to compete with other strikers for a starting spot. He showed his frustration during one game, which led to a fine, but he soon recovered.

Becoming a Key Player (2005–2008)
In the 2005–06 season, Keane worked hard and earned his place in the team. By March, he was the club's top goalscorer. He finished the season with 16 league goals, making him one of the Premier League's top scorers. He also became the team's vice-captain.
In 2006, Keane signed a new four-year contract with Tottenham. He had a slow start to the 2006–07 season due to a knee injury. However, he returned to form and formed a strong partnership with Dimitar Berbatov. Keane scored 22 goals that season, his highest ever. He also made his 200th appearance for Tottenham.
He signed another five-year contract in May 2007. On 26 December 2007, he scored his 100th Premier League goal, becoming one of only 13 players to do so. He scored his first goal for Liverpool in October 2008 in a Champions League game. He scored another Champions League goal soon after. He also scored two goals against West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League. However, he found it hard to become a regular starter. After leaving Tottenham, Keane joined LA Galaxy in MLS in August 2011. He became one of the club's special "designated players" alongside David Beckham and Landon Donovan. He scored in his first game for LA Galaxy.
The Galaxy won the Western Conference and the Supporters' Shield that season. Keane scored in the play-offs to help his team reach the 2011 MLS Cup. In the final, he helped set up the winning goal as the Galaxy won the cup.

On 4 August 2017, Keane signed for Indian Super League team ATK, joining his former teammate Teddy Sheringham, who was the coach. He was made the team captain. However, he got injured before the season started and could not play until December. He scored his first goal for ATK in December.
Keane became player-manager of ATK in March 2018 after the previous coaches left. He scored the only goal in a 1–0 win in his first game as manager. After playing and managing the last three matches, Keane decided to leave the club. He officially announced his retirement from playing football in November 2018.
