MLS Player of the Month facts for kids

Chris Wondolowski has won a record seven Player of the Month awards, winning four of them in the 2012 season alone.

The Major League Soccer Player of the Month is a cool award given out every month to top soccer players in Major League Soccer (MLS). It's like saying, "Hey, you were the best player this month!" A group of sports journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters organization decides who wins. Before 2023, a different group called the Professional Soccer Reporters Association used to vote.

Since 2023, a company called Celsius Holdings, which makes energy drinks, has sponsored the award. So now it's officially called the MLS Player of the Month presented by CELSIUS.

Who Has Won the Award?

This award has been given out to many amazing players over the years. It's a way to celebrate the players who really shine each month in the MLS season.

Clint Mathis was the first player to win the award twice in one season.

Carlos Vela won the award three times in the 2019 season.

Luciano Acosta, who recently won the award.

Players with Multiple Wins

Some players are so good that they've won this award more than once! It's a big deal to win it even once, so winning it many times shows how consistently great these players are.

Landon Donovan won six awards over eleven seasons.
