In 2002, a friend sent Samantha's music demo to a record producer in Los Angeles, United States. This led to Samantha and her family traveling to Hollywood for a meeting. The next year, they moved to Los Angeles. In 2004, she signed with the US record label Jive Records and started recording songs. That same year, a song she helped write, "Secret Love", was sung by JoJo for the movie Shark Tale.

In 2006, Samantha recorded the song "Step Up" for the dance movie Step Up. This song was written by Diane Warren. It appeared on the Billboard Pop 100 chart for one week. In 2007, Samantha released her next song, "Turn Around". It was meant to be the first song from her album, My Name is Samantha Jade. "Turn Around" first reached number 83 on the ARIA Singles Chart. When Samantha won The X Factor in 2012, the song became popular again and reached number 53. After three years, her album My Name is Samantha Jade was not released. Samantha also helped write and sang backup on songs for Ashley Tisdale and Tiffany Evans.

Samantha later left Jive Records. She tried to make music on her own with Affinity West Entertainment. She recorded an album called Golden Touch for them, but its release had issues and it only came out in 2012. In 2010, Samantha acted in the movie Beneath the Blue. She also recorded a song with David Guetta and Laidback Luke for David Guetta's album One Love. In July 2009, Samantha released her song "Secret" in Australia, but it did not appear on the music charts. The music video for "Secret" showed her looking for an old friend. In 2010, Samantha moved back to Perth and worked at her father's mining factory.
