Samantha Jade Gibbs (born 18 April 1987) is an Australian singer and songwriter. She has written songs for other artists like JoJo and Ashley Tisdale. In 2012, Samantha won the fourth season of The X Factor Australia. She was the first woman to win the Australian series.
After winning, she signed with Sony Music Australia. She then released her winner's song "What You've Done to Me". This song went straight to number one on the Australian music charts. On 16 August 2024, Samantha released her new EP, Love.Sick. Vol 2. It reached number 5 on the Australian iTunes Album Charts.

Early Life and Beginnings
Samantha Jade Gibbs was born in Perth, Western Australia. Her father, Kevin Gibbs, has Anglo-Indian family roots. Her mother, Jacqueline Deans Gibbs, was of Scottish descent. Her mother passed away on 8 June 2014.
Samantha started modeling when she was four years old. At age nine, she won a talent show by singing "Amazing Grace". She went to Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School in Kiara. She also attended Hampton Senior High School in Morley.
Starting Her Music Journey
In 2002, a friend sent Samantha's demo tape to a music producer in Los Angeles, USA. The producer invited Samantha and her family to Hollywood. The next year, they moved to Los Angeles. In 2004, she signed with Jive Records. She started recording demo songs. That year, a song she helped write, "Secret Love", was used by JoJo. It was for the soundtrack of the 2004 film Shark Tale.
In 2006, Samantha recorded "Step Up" for the dance film Step Up. This song was written by Diane Warren and produced by Wyclef Jean. The song appeared on the Billboard Pop 100 chart for one week. In 2007, Samantha released her next song, "Turn Around". It was the first song from her planned debut album, My Name is Samantha Jade.
"Turn Around" first reached number 83 on the ARIA Singles Chart. After Samantha won The X Factor in 2012, the song re-entered the chart. It then peaked at number 53. After three years, her album My Name is Samantha Jade was never officially released. In 2007, Samantha helped write and sang backup on "Positivity" for Ashley Tisdale's album Headstrong. The next year, she did the same for "Can't Walk Away" on Tiffany Evans' album Tiffany Evans.
Samantha later left Jive Records. She tried to make music on her own. In 2010, she acted in the film Beneath the Blue. She also recorded a song with David Guetta and Laidback Luke. This song was a bonus track on some versions of David Guetta's album One Love. In July 2009, Samantha released her third song, "Secret", in Australia. It did not appear on the music charts. In 2010, Samantha moved back to Perth. She worked at her father's mining factory.
The X Factor Australia and Success
In 2012, Samantha tried out for the fourth season of The X Factor. She sang "Breakeven" by The Script. Judge Guy Sebastian was very impressed. Samantha made it through to the live shows. Her mentor was Guy Sebastian.
For her first live performance, she sang Katy Perry's "Wide Awake". All four judges praised her. Ronan Keating even said it was "better than Katy Perry." However, Samantha ended up in the bottom two. She was saved by the judges. She faced the bottom two again in week five and week seven. Each time, she was saved.
In the semi-finals, Samantha sang "Heartless" and "Where Have You Been". She made it to the grand final. On 20 November 2012, Samantha Jade was announced as the winner! She won a recording contract with Sony Music Australia. She also won a Nissan Dualis car.

After winning The X Factor, Samantha's song "What You've Done to Me" was released online. Just three days later, it reached number one on the ARIA Singles Chart. It sold over 210,000 copies, earning a triple platinum award. Samantha's first album, also called Samantha Jade, came out on 7 December 2012. It included new versions of songs she sang on The X Factor. The album reached number three on the ARIA Albums Chart. It was certified gold, meaning it sold 35,000 copies.
Samantha's very first album, The Golden Touch, was released by a former record label. This happened without her or Sony Music's permission. This caused some disagreements about the album's release.
New Music and Acting Roles
In January 2013, Samantha Jade went on The X Factor Live Tour. She performed in cities like Gold Coast, Sydney, and Melbourne. The first song from her second album, "Firestarter", was released on 28 June 2013. It reached number nine on the ARIA Singles Chart. It was certified Platinum for selling 70,000 copies. Samantha also helped design her own jewelry line with Diva accessories.
In August 2013, Samantha performed in Indonesia for a TV special called X Factor Around the World. She sang "Firestarter" on The X Factor again. In early 2019, Samantha confirmed she was working on her fifth album. It would have new original songs. In September 2019, she released "Bounce". This was the first song from the album. She said she wanted to make music that she loved and that her fans would enjoy. She was inspired by artists like Brandy, TLC, and J-Lo. On 31 January 2020, Samantha released "In the Morning."
In September 2020, Samantha was part of Kit Kat's R U OK? Day social media campaign. On 3 October 2020, she released "Back 2 Back." She confirmed that her album was finished. She released another song, "New Boy," on 20 November 2020. However, the album was later changed to a new EP instead.
In May 2022, Samantha appeared on the sixth season of The Celebrity Apprentice Australia. On 17 June 2022, she released "Dance Again." This was her first song with Midnight Records. In November 2022, Samantha confirmed the release of the Love.Sick EP. It came out on 25 November 2022.
On 23 November 2023, Samantha released her first original Christmas song, "Christmas Kisses." On 7 July 2024, she competed on season 21 of Dancing with the Stars (Australia). She and her partner Gustavo Viglio finished in second place. A few days later, on August 16, Samantha released the EP Love.Sick.Vol.2. Its main song is "Peachy."

Samantha Jade is a light-lyric soprano. She says Beyoncé, Robyn, and Mariah Carey are her musical inspirations. Her first original album was a pop record. She describes her album Nine as very personal. She felt like she was playing a character on her Best Of My Love album, which had disco cover songs. Her voice is described as light and clear. She has an angelic voice. She helped write parts of Nine, including "Born to Be Alive" and "Wait for It." These songs are considered poppy.
Personal Life
Samantha Jade used to live in Los Angeles to follow her singing dreams. When she found it hard to get a new record deal, she moved back to Perth. She worked at her father's warehouse. Later, she moved to Sydney and worked as a makeup artist while still performing.
In early 2019, Samantha announced she was engaged to Pat Handlin. They got married in October 2022 in Venice, Italy.
