The Saudi Binladen Group (SBG), also known as Binladen Group Global Holding Company since 2019, is a very large construction company. It works in many countries and is based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
In 2011, the Saudi Binladen Group signed a huge deal. They agreed to build the Jeddah Tower in Jeddah, which is planned to be the tallest building in the world. They also have a big agreement to build the Doha Metro in Doha, Qatar. This company is made up of about 537 different businesses. The group was started by Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden.

About the Company
The SBG was started in 1931 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden. He had a good relationship with Saudi Arabia's founder, King Abdulaziz Al Saud. This helped the company get important jobs. For example, they helped fix up the famous mosques in Mecca and Medina. In 1964, Mohammed bin Laden was asked to work on the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.
After Sheikh Mohammed passed away in 1967, his brother-in-law, Mohammed Bahareth, led the company. Later, in 1972, Mohammed's oldest son, Salem bin Laden, took over. When Salem died in 1988, his brother, Bakr bin Laden, became the leader. He worked with thirteen other brothers who formed the company's board.
In 2018, Bakr bin Laden and his brothers, Saleh and Saad, transferred part of their ownership in the company. About 36.2% of the Saudi Binladin Group now belongs to the Istidama Holding Company. This company is owned by the Saudi Ministry of Finance. The Saudi government then set up a special committee to help run the Binladen Group.
What the Company Does Now
The Binladen Group has offices in many Saudi Arabian cities, like Riyadh and Dammam. They also have offices in other major cities in the region. These include Beirut in Lebanon, Cairo in Egypt, Amman in Jordan, and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
Here are some of their activities in different countries:
- In Egypt, the SBG is a very large foreign-owned private company. It has over 40,000 employees there.
- In Lebanon, the SBG has been talking about helping to rebuild the Beirut Central District. This is a big project to fix up the city center.
- In London, the SBG opened a company called Binexport in 1990.
The group built the Abraj Al Bait Towers in Mecca. They also have a contract to build the Jeddah Tower.
On September 11, 2015, a crane belonging to the Group collapsed. This happened while they were doing construction work at the Grand Mosque in Mecca. Strong winds caused the accident, leading to 118 deaths and nearly 400 injuries. Because of this, the Saudi king temporarily stopped the company from taking new projects. Their current projects were also reviewed. The ban was lifted in May 2016, allowing them to bid on new projects again.
