Professional Tennis Journey

Starting Out (2004-2007)

Stakhovsky began playing in bigger ATP tournaments in 2004. He slowly climbed the rankings. In 2005, he won his first ATP-level singles match. He also had success in doubles, winning two Challenger tournaments that year. By 2007, he was improving his doubles game, winning two more Challenger titles.

First Big Win (2008)

In March 2008, Sergiy won his first ATP Tour title at the Zagreb Indoors tournament in Croatia. He was a "lucky loser," which means he lost in the qualifying rounds but still got to play because another player dropped out. He beat top players, including Ivan Ljubičić in the final. This made him the first lucky loser to win a title since 1991!

Grand Slam Highlights (2011-2015)

In 2011, Sergiy was seeded (meaning he was one of the top players) at the 2011 French Open. He reached the third round, which was a great achievement. He also played for Ukraine at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

His most memorable moment came at Wimbledon in 2013. He faced Roger Federer, who had won Wimbledon seven times. Stakhovsky, ranked No. 116 at the time, surprised everyone by defeating Federer in four sets. This win was a huge upset and ended Federer's incredible streak of reaching the quarterfinals in every Grand Slam for almost ten years.

Sergiy continued to play in Grand Slams, reaching the third round of the US Open in 2015.
