Samuel Timothy McGraw (born May 1, 1967) is a famous American country singer and actor. He has released many albums, with 10 of them reaching number one on the country charts. His music has produced 65 singles, and 25 of these have hit number one.
Tim McGraw has won many awards, including three Grammy Awards. He also has 14 Academy of Country Music awards and 11 Country Music Association (CMA) awards. His tours, especially with his wife Faith Hill, are some of the most successful in country music history. He has sold over 80 million records worldwide. This makes him one of the best-selling music artists ever.
Besides music, McGraw has acted in several movies. These include The Blind Side and Friday Night Lights. He also starred in the TV series 1883. He is married to singer Faith Hill and is the son of former baseball player Tug McGraw.

Early Life and Path to Music
Samuel Timothy McGraw was born in Delhi, Louisiana. His mother was Elizabeth "Betty" Ann D'Agostino. His father was Frank Edwin "Tug" McGraw Jr., a baseball pitcher. Tim grew up thinking his stepfather, Horace Smith, was his dad.
When Tim was 11, he found his birth certificate. He learned that Tug McGraw was his biological father. They later formed a close relationship. Tug McGraw passed away in 2004.
As a child, Tim loved playing sports, especially baseball. He even played in college at Northeast Louisiana University. A knee injury stopped him from playing professionally. While in college, he learned to play the guitar. He often sang for money. In 1989, he moved to Nashville to start a music career.

Starting Out in the 1990s
First Steps with Curb Records

Tim McGraw signed with Curb Records in 1990. His first single, "What Room Was the Holiday In", came out in 1991. It did not become a big hit. In 1993, he released his first album, Tim McGraw. This album was not very successful. None of its singles made it into the Top 40 country charts.
Breakthrough with Not a Moment Too Soon
McGraw's second album, Not a Moment Too Soon, was a huge success. It was the best-selling country album of 1994. The first single, "Indian Outlaw", caused some talk but helped sales. It became his first Top 10 country song.
His second single, "Don't Take the Girl", became his first number one hit. This song helped show his sensitive side. The album's title track also reached number one. Not a Moment Too Soon sold over 6 million copies. It topped both the Billboard 200 and Top Country Album charts. McGraw won awards for Album of the Year and Top New Male Vocalist.
All I Want and Meeting Faith Hill
McGraw's third album, All I Want, came out in 1995. It also debuted at number one on the country charts. The song "I Like It, I Love It" became his third number one hit.
In 1996, McGraw toured with Faith Hill. They started dating and got married on October 6, 1996.
Everywhere and More Success
His fourth album, Everywhere, was released in 1997. It sold 4 million copies. Four songs from this album reached number one. These included "It's Your Love", a duet with Faith Hill. A Place in the Sun

2000s: Continued Hits and New Ventures
Greatest Hits and Set This Circus Down
In 2000, McGraw released his first Greatest Hits album. It was a huge seller. He and Faith Hill went on the Soul2Soul Tour, which was very popular.
His sixth studio album, Set This Circus Down, came out in 2001. It also had four number one hits.
Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors
In 2002, McGraw did something different. He recorded his album Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors with his touring band, The Dancehall Doctors. This was unusual for country music. He wanted to show how important his band was to his success.
The album had hits like "Real Good Man" and "Watch the Wind Blow By". It also included a cover of Elton John's "Tiny Dancer".
Live Like You Were Dying
His eighth album, Live Like You Were Dying, came out in 2004. The title song was a tribute to his father, Tug McGraw, who had passed away. It was about living life to the fullest. This song became the top country song of 2004 and won many awards.

Changing Labels
In 2011, McGraw had a legal dispute with Curb Records. A judge allowed him to record music for another label. In 2012, he signed with Big Machine Records.
His first album with Big Machine was Two Lanes of Freedom, released in 2013. It included the hit "Highway Don't Care", a duet with Taylor Swift and Keith Urban.
Sundown Heaven Town and D**n Country Music
In 2014, he released Sundown Heaven Town. This album featured the popular song "Shotgun Rider", which became a number one hit.
His next album, D**n Country Music, came out in 2015. It included the very successful song "Humble and Kind", which also reached number one.
The Rest of Our Life
In 2016, McGraw and Hill announced the Soul2Soul: The World Tour. They also signed a new deal with Sony Music Nashville. They released a duet album together called The Rest of Our Life in 2017.
McGraw also released two best-selling books in 2019.
2020s: Back to Big Machine and New Music
In 2020, McGraw rejoined Big Machine Records. He released a new album, Here on Earth, that year. In 2021, he released the song "Undivided" with Tyler Hubbard.
In 2023, McGraw released his sixteenth studio album, Standing Room Only. The title track was a hit. Soon after, he surprised fans with a six-song EP called Poet's Resumé.
Acting Career
Tim McGraw has had a successful acting career. His first acting role was in a TV show in 1997. In 2004, he played a sheriff in Black Cloud. He also received praise for his role in the football movie Friday Night Lights.
His first main role was in the 2006 film Flicka. He played the father, Rob. Around this time, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He also had roles in The Kingdom (2007) and Four Christmases (2008).
In 2009, McGraw played Sean Tuohy in The Blind Side. This movie was based on a true story. In 2010, he starred in Country Strong with Gwyneth Paltrow. He also appeared in the 2015 movie Tomorrowland. In 2021, he starred with Faith Hill in the TV series 1883, which is a prequel to Yellowstone.
Helping Others
Tim McGraw is known for his charity work. In 1994, he started the annual Swampstock event. It began as a softball game to raise money for local little league teams. Now, it includes a celebrity softball game and a concert. The money raised helps fund new baseball parks and college scholarships.
He also hosted "The Bread and Water Tour". For this, he would play surprise shows in local clubs. All the money from these shows went to charities in that community.

Personal Life
Tim McGraw married fellow country singer Faith Hill in 1996. They have three daughters. They own a private island in the Bahamas.
In 2015, Forbes magazine estimated McGraw's yearly income at $38 million. He is also the godfather to the son of actor Garrett Hedlund.
McGraw has a private pilot license. He also owns a special type of dog called a Bracco Italiano. His dog, Lepshi, won Best of Breed at the 2023 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
