Timor-Leste, also known as the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, is a country that loves sports! They have been competing in the Olympics under their own name since 2004. Before that, their athletes participated in the Games in different ways.

Timor-Leste's journey to the Olympics is quite interesting. From 1976 to 1996, athletes from Timor-Leste competed as part of the team from Indonesia. Then, in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, they competed as "Individual Olympic Athletes." This was a special team for athletes whose countries didn't yet have their own National Olympic Committee.

Finally, in 2003, Timor-Leste set up its own National Olympic Committee. This meant they could send their own team to the Olympics! Since then, they have proudly represented their country at both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. So far, Timor-Leste has not yet won an Olympic medal.
