The country of Togo has been a part of the Summer Olympic Games for many years. They first sent athletes in 1972. Togo has participated in almost every Summer Olympics since then. They only missed the games in 1976 and 1980 because they chose not to attend.

Togo won its very first Olympic medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. This historic moment happened when Benjamin Boukpeti earned a bronze medal. He competed in the K1 kayak slalom event, which involves paddling through a challenging course.

Togo also made its first appearance at the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014. They sent two skiers to compete. One of them was Mathilde-Amivi Petitjean, a cross-country skier. She was born in Togo and grew up in France. She also carried Togo's flag at the opening ceremony. The other skier was Alessia Afi Dipol, an alpine skier. She was born in Italy but is a citizen of Togo.
