University of Southern California facts for kids
The University of Southern California (also called USC) is a private university in Los Angeles, California, USA. It was founded in 1880. This makes it California's oldest private research university.
USC is a big school with many students. In 2007, there were over 16,000 undergraduate students and over 17,000 graduate students. Students come from all over the United States and more than 115 other countries.
The university also has many teachers and staff. In 2007, about 3,127 full-time teachers worked there. USC does a lot of important research. They received over $484 million for research in 2007. The Trojans have won many championships. They have won 89 NCAA team championships. This is the third-highest in the nation. They also have 347 individual NCAA championships. Many Trojan athletes have gone to the Olympic Games. They have won 112 gold, 66 silver, and 58 bronze medals.
The basketball team plays at the Galen Center. The football team plays at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The football team has won many national championships. They have also won 23 Rose Bowls. This is a famous football game. USC has big sports rivalries. They play against UCLA in all sports. They also have a strong rivalry with Notre Dame in football.
