Versailles is a city in Woodford County, Kentucky, United States. It is about 13 miles (21 km) west of Lexington. Versailles is part of the larger Lexington-Fayette area. It is also the main city, or county seat, of Woodford County. In 2024, about 10,534 people lived there. The city's name is pronounced "ver-SAYLZ," which is different from the French city of Versailles near Paris.

History of Versailles
Versailles was started on June 23, 1792. It was built on 80 acres of land that belonged to a child named Hezekiah Briscoe. His guardian, Major Marquis Calmes, chose the name. He named the town after Versailles, France. This was done to honor General Lafayette, who was a friend of the family.
The area around Versailles in Kentucky is known as the Bluegrass Region. This region became famous for its fast horses, called thoroughbreds, and other farm animals. Versailles officially became a city on February 13, 1837. During the American Civil War, soldiers from both the Confederate and Union armies briefly took over the city.

The area around Versailles, in the Inner Bluegrass Region, is very important for horses. It is a major center for horse breeding and training. Many famous thoroughbred and standardbred racehorses are raised and trained here. People also raise saddlebred horses for fun riding.

- The Flim-Flam Man (1967) was filmed in and around Versailles. Parts of it were shot at Paynes Depot and on Clifton Road.
