Xanthisma, also known as the sleepy-daisy, is a group of flowering plants. These plants are part of the sunflower family. This means they are related to sunflowers and daisies!
What's in a Name?
The name Xanthisma comes from ancient Greek words. "Xanthos" means "yellow," and "-ismos" means "condition." So, the name basically means "yellow condition." This makes sense because many sleepy-daisy flowers are yellow.
Scientists first described this plant group in 1836. They found the first samples in a place that was then called "The Mexican Province of Texas."
