What Happened in 1830?
The July Revolution in France
In 1830, France saw a major uprising called the July Revolution. This event started on July 27, when people in Paris, the capital city, rose up against their king. They were unhappy with how King Charles X was ruling the country.
Why Did the Revolution Start?
King Charles X wanted to bring back old ways of ruling, which meant less freedom for the people. He tried to control the newspapers and limit who could vote. This made many citizens, especially the middle class and workers, very angry. They felt their rights were being taken away.
How Did the Revolution Unfold?
The protests quickly turned into a fight. People built barricades in the streets of Paris. They fought against the king's soldiers for three days. This period is sometimes called the "Three Glorious Days" (Les Trois Glorieuses). The people were determined to make a change.
A New King for France
The revolution was successful! On August 2, King Charles X realized he had lost the support of his people and decided to step down from the throne. This was a huge moment for France.
Louis Philippe Becomes King
After Charles X left, the French people needed a new leader. On August 9, Louis Philippe, a cousin of the former king, became the new "King of the French." This was different from being "King of France." It meant he was king because the people chose him, not just because he was born into the royal family. This change showed that the power was shifting more towards the people.
Important People of 1830
Joseph Fourier: A Smart Thinker
In 1830, the world lost a very important scientist named Joseph Fourier. He was a French mathematician and physicist. Fourier is famous for his work on how heat moves and spreads. His ideas are still used today in many areas, like engineering and computer science. He helped us understand how different waves, like sound or light, can be broken down into simpler parts.
