Ariarne Elizabeth Titmus (born 7 September 2000) is an Australian swimmer. She is a two-time Olympic champion in the women's 400-metre freestyle. She won this event at both the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2024 Summer Olympics. Ariarne also holds world records in the long course 200-metre and 400-metre freestyle events.

About Ariarne Titmus

Ariarne Titmus was born in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. In 2015, her family moved to Queensland to help her with better swimming training. She went to school at St Patrick's College Launceston and St Peter's Lutheran College. Her coach is Dean Boxall, who has also trained other famous swimmers.

Ariarne's Swimming Journey

Early Career and First Medals

Ariarne started making a name for herself at the 2016 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Hawaii. She won a silver medal in the 4 × 200 metre freestyle relay. She also earned a bronze medal in the 400 metre freestyle event.

In 2018, Ariarne had a fantastic performance at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She won three gold medals in the 400 metre freestyle, 800 metre freestyle, and the 4 x 200 metre freestyle relay. She also took home a silver medal in the 200 metre freestyle.

Setting World Records

On 14 December 2018, Ariarne set a new world record in the short course 400-metre freestyle. She swam it in 3 minutes, 53.92 seconds at the 2018 FINA World Swimming Championships. She also won a gold medal in the 200 metre freestyle and two bronze medals in relay races at this competition.

At the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in South Korea, Ariarne won a gold medal in the 400-metre freestyle. She beat American swimmer Katie Ledecky by a full second. In the 4 × 200 metre freestyle relay, her Australian team set a new world record with a time of 7 minutes, 41.50 seconds.

Olympic Glory

In 2021, Ariarne won two gold medals for Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

  • She won the 400-metre freestyle, beating Katie Ledecky.
  • She set a new Olympic Record in the 200-metre freestyle final.

Ariarne also earned a silver medal in the 800-metre freestyle. She was part of the relay team that won a bronze medal in the 4 × 200 metre women's freestyle relay.

At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Ariarne continued her success. She won another gold medal in the Women's 400 metre freestyle. She also won a gold medal as part of the 4x200m freestyle relay team. She earned silver medals in the 200m and 800m freestyle events.

More World Records

In May 2022, Ariarne set a new world record in the long course 400-metre freestyle. She swam it in 3 minutes, 56.40 seconds. She later broke her own record at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships with a time of 3 minutes, 55.38 seconds.

In June 2024, Ariarne set another new world record in the long course 200-metre freestyle. Her time was 1 minute, 52.23 seconds.
