Ariarne Elizabeth Titmus, born on September 7, 2000, is an amazing Australian swimmer. She is known as an Olympic champion in the 400-metre freestyle race, winning gold at both the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2024 Summer Olympics. Ariarne also holds the world record for the 200-metre freestyle in a long course pool. Many people think she is one of the best middle-distance swimmers ever!

About Ariarne Titmus
In 2015, when Ariarne was 14, her family moved from Tasmania to Queensland. They moved so she could have better training chances. She first went to school at St Patrick's College Launceston. Later, she switched to St Peter's Lutheran College in Brisbane.
Ariarne started her swimming training at the Launceston Leisure and Aquatic Centre. Her coach is Dean Boxall, who also coached famous swimmers like Stephanie Rice and Leisel Jones. Ariarne is a big fan of the Hawthorn Hawks in the Australian Football League.
Ariarne's Swimming Journey
Early Competitions
At the 2016 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Hawaii, Ariarne won a silver medal. This was for the 4 × 200 metre freestyle relay race. She also earned a bronze medal in the 400 metre freestyle event.
In 2017, Ariarne took part in the women's 200-metre freestyle event at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships.
Commonwealth Games Success
At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Ariarne won three gold medals! She won in the 400 metre freestyle, 800 metre freestyle, and the 4 x 200-metre freestyle relay. She also took home a silver medal in the 200 metre freestyle.
Setting World Records
On December 14, 2018, Ariarne set a new world record in the short course 400-metre freestyle. She swam it in 3:53.92 at the 2018 FINA World Swimming Championships. She also won another gold in the 200 metre freestyle and two bronze medals in relay races at this event.
In 2019, Ariarne was chosen to represent Australia at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in South Korea. She won the gold medal in the women's 400-metre freestyle. Her time of 3:58.76 was a new Oceania record. In the 4 × 200 metre freestyle relay, the Australian team broke the world record with a time of 7:41.50.
Olympic Glory
In 2021, Ariarne won two gold medals for Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. She won the 400-metre freestyle final, beating world record holder Katie Ledecky. She also set a new Olympic Record of 1:53.50 in the 200-metre freestyle final.
Ariarne also earned a silver medal in the 800-metre freestyle final. She was part of the relay team that won bronze in the 4 × 200 metre women's freestyle relay.
At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Ariarne won another gold medal. This was in the Women's 400 metres freestyle. She finished ahead of Summer McIntosh from Canada and Katie Ledecky from America. She also won a gold medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay and two silver medals in the 200m and 800m freestyle events.
More World Records
At the 2022 Australian Swimming Championships in May 2022, Ariarne set a new world record in the long course 400-metre freestyle. Her time was 3:56.40. She later regained this record at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships with an even faster time of 3:55.38.
In June 2024, at the 2024 Australian Swimming Trials, Ariarne set a new world record in the long course 200-metre freestyle. Her time was 1:52.23.
