Boulsworth Hill is a large area of open land called moorland. It is the highest point in the South Pennines region of south-eastern Lancashire, England. This hill helps to separate the Borough of Pendle from Calderdale.

Its very top is called Lad Law. It stands 1,696 feet (517 meters) above sea level. From the top, you can see amazing views all around.

Exploring Boulsworth Hill

Boulsworth Hill is a special place for nature and outdoor adventures. It's known for its wide-open spaces and beautiful views. Many people enjoy hiking and exploring this area.

What is Boulsworth Hill?

Boulsworth Hill is a big, open area covered in grassland and heather. It's part of the Pennines, which is a range of hills often called the "backbone of England." The hill is mostly made of a type of rock called Millstone Grit. You can see this rock sticking out in many places.

The highest point of Boulsworth Hill is called Lad Law. It's a great spot to look out over the landscape.

Amazing Views from the Top

When you reach the summit of Lad Law, you get incredible views. You can see famous places like Pendle Hill and the Forest of Bowland. On a very clear day, you might even spot Scafell Pike and Helvellyn far to the north. These are two of England's tallest mountains!

Looking east, you might see the Ferrybridge power station. To the south, you can see High Peak in Derbyshire. If you look west, you might even catch a glimpse of the "Big One" roller coaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Walking Trails and Adventures

Boulsworth Hill is a popular place for walking and hiking. Two famous long-distance paths, the Brontë Way and the Pendle Way, go along its slopes. These paths offer ways to climb the hill from towns like Nelson and Wycoller.

Another way to climb is from Trawden, which is the closest town to the summit. The famous Pennine Way walking path was originally planned to go over Boulsworth Hill. However, it now passes just to the east of the hill instead. Thanks to a law called the CRoW Act, you can also legally climb the hill from the Yorkshire side, near Hebden Bridge.

Nature and Wildlife

The hill is covered in acidic grassland. This type of land is perfect for many kinds of birds. It's a valuable breeding ground for birds like red grouse, twite, and golden plover. These birds find food and safe places to raise their young here.

Boulsworth Hill is located just inside Lancashire county. However, the border with the West Yorkshire district of Calderdale is only about a mile to the southeast of Lad Law.
