Casey Patterson is an American television executive, producer, and director. She is known for creating and producing many popular TV shows and awards ceremonies. Some of her famous creations include The Comedy Awards, the Guys Choice Awards, and the Scream Awards. She also helped create The Sharon Osbourne Show.

Casey Patterson has produced special TV events like the "One Night Only" shows, honoring stars such as Eddie Murphy and Don Rickles. As an executive, she has helped produce big events like The Concert for New York City and the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

Early Career in TV

Casey Patterson started her career in 1997 at MTV Networks. She began as a talent booker, which means she helped find and book famous people for shows. Later, she became the Director of Talent Development at VH1.

At VH1, she worked on many well-known shows and events. These included The Concert for New York City, the VH1 Vogue Fashion Awards, and VH1 Divas Live. She also helped with popular shows like Pop-Up Video and Behind the Music. She was involved in Saturday Night Live's 25th Anniversary Special and the "Concert of the Century" at the White House. During this time, she also worked on the Fox Billboard Music Awards and the CMT's Flameworthy Awards.

Casey Patterson was an Executive Producer for the 2003 GQ Men of the Year Awards and the 2004 Spike VGA Video Game Awards. In 2006, she created and produced two awards shows for Spike: Scream and Guys Choice.

In 2009, Patterson was promoted to a top executive role at Viacom Entertainment Group. This group included channels like Spike, Comedy Central, and TV Land. In this role, she became the executive producer of The TV Land Awards and created The Comedy Awards for Comedy Central.

Lip Sync Battle

Lip Sync Battle is a very popular TV show that started on April 2, 2015. It first aired on Spike, which is now called Paramount Network. The show is based on an idea where celebrities pretend to sing songs, battling each other with their performances. This idea started as a small part of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon before becoming its own show.

The first episode of Lip Sync Battle was the most-watched premiere in Spike's history. The show quickly became a big hit. It was renewed for a second season, which started in January 2016. A special holiday episode also aired in November 2015. The show was renewed for a third season in January 2016, which premiered in October 2016. Because of its success, many other countries have made their own versions of Lip Sync Battle. The show was renewed for a fourth season in April 2017, which began in January 2018. A fifth season premiered in 2019.

Spike Video Game Awards

Casey Patterson has been involved with the Spike Video Game Awards since they began in 2003. She has been an Executive Producer for the show since 2004. Casey Patterson created the Guys Choice Awards in 2006 and has been the Executive Producer since it started.

The Guys Choice Awards became famous for its fun and unique style. Entertainment Weekly called it "one of the best A-List parties in town." The show gave out awards like "Brass Balls" to Clint Eastwood and "Decade of Hotness" to actresses like Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, and Sandra Bullock.

A special part of the show was "The Guy Movie Hall of Fame." For this, Casey Patterson helped reunite actors like Brad Pitt and Edward Norton with director David Fincher to honor a famous movie. Another year, she brought together Robert De Niro and Ray Liotta to celebrate another well-known film.

As Executive Producer, Patterson also made sure to honor the military. She worked with the US Armed Forces to feature and celebrate veterans and active-duty officers. The show gave out the "Troops Choice" award, which is voted on by military personnel. Past winners include Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake, Vin Diesel, and Mark Wahlberg. In 2010, Sandra Bullock received this award in her first public appearance after a difficult time in her personal life.

Scream Awards

Casey Patterson helped create and produce The Scream Awards. This two-hour event celebrated the best in comic books, horror, science fiction, and fantasy. Scream was the first awards show to honor these "fan boy" genres. It quickly got the attention of movie studios and famous creators like J.J. Abrams, Christopher Nolan, and Quentin Tarantino, who supported the show from the beginning.

As Executive Producer, Patterson worked with Comic-Con International to present the "Comic-Con Icon" award each year. In 2008, George Lucas, the creator of "Star Wars," received this award. He made a rare public appearance on stage with three hundred Imperial Stormtroopers from his films.

TV Land Awards

The TV Land Awards was a two-hour special that celebrated the best of classic TV and popular culture. It featured special reunions of famous TV show casts. Some of these included The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Freaks and Geeks, Ally McBeal, M.A.S.H., Happy Days, Mary Tyler Moore, and The Dick Van Dyke Show.

The Comedy Awards

In 2011, Casey Patterson created and produced the first Comedy Awards. This show was made to honor great achievements in comedy, a type of entertainment that was often overlooked at other awards ceremonies. To make the awards fair and respected, Patterson put together a special board of directors. This board included famous comedians and creators like Jon Stewart, Seth MacFarlane, Carol Burnett, Chris Rock, and Conan O'Brien. They helped choose the categories and nominees. Winners were then chosen by over 1,500 people from the comedy world, including producers, writers, directors, and stand-up comedians.

Patterson also worked with the John W. Carson Foundation to name the show's highest honor after Johnny Carson, a legendary TV host. The first "Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence" was given to David Letterman by Bill Murray. The next year, it was given to the famous comedian Don Rickles by Jon Stewart and Robert De Niro.

The first awards ceremony was shown on many channels at the same time, including CMT, Comedy Central, Logo TV, Nick at Nite, Spike, TV Land, and VH1. Patterson also oversaw the production of the pre-show, "Between Two Ferns: A Fairytale of New York," which was the first time the comedy web series Between Two Ferns starring Zach Galifianakis was shown on TV.

Eddie Murphy: One Night Only

In 2012, Casey Patterson created and produced the special "Eddie Murphy: One Night Only." This event was very special because it was the first time the famous comedian Eddie Murphy agreed to be honored in this way. The event happened a few months after he decided not to host the 84th Academy Awards. Many of Murphy's friends and co-stars, including Chris Rock, Jamie Foxx, Tracy Morgan, Adam Sandler, Stevie Wonder, Tyler Perry, and Arsenio Hall, came to celebrate him.

One Night Only: A Tribute to Don Rickles

In 2014, Patterson honored another comedy legend with the special "One Night Only: An All-Star Comedy Tribute to Don Rickles." This show was one of the few dedicated to Don Rickles' amazing career, which lasted over sixty years. The special was recorded at the famous Apollo Theater in New York City. Jerry Seinfeld was the host. Many famous people, including Johnny Depp, Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Jon Stewart, David Letterman, Tracy Morgan, Brian Williams, Amy Poehler, and Tina Fey, performed monologues. Other comedians like Bob Newhart, Bill Cosby, Jimmy Kimmel, and Eddie Murphy appeared in recorded segments.

The Sharon Osbourne Show

In 2003, Casey Patterson was the Talent Producer for the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II. During this time, she hired Sharon Osbourne for her first TV hosting job. They then worked together to create "The Sharon Osbourne Show," which aired for one season.

Helping Others

Casey Patterson has been very involved in Viacom's charity efforts. She played a key role in VH1's Save the Music Foundation, which helps fund music education. She also supported Spike's True Dads campaign, the Hire a Vet initiative, and the American Comedy Fund. She has also served on the board for the NY Center for Autism.
