Cook Out is a popular American quick service restaurant chain. It is known for its tasty hamburgers, hot dogs, and many flavors of milkshakes. Cook Out started in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1989.
You can find Cook Out restaurants in many states. These include North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Mississippi. The chain has grown a lot and now has restaurants in over 100 cities.
Most Cook Out locations have two drive-thru lanes and a window where you can walk up to order. They usually do not have indoor seating. However, some newer locations do have dining rooms and counter service. This is similar to other traditional fast-food restaurants.
History of Cook Out
Cook Out was founded by Morris Reaves in 1989. He is still the owner of the company today. His son, Jeremy Reaves, is the CEO. This means he is in charge of running the company every day.
The very first Cook Out restaurant opened in Greensboro, North Carolina. For a long time, all Cook Out restaurants were only in North Carolina. They opened more than 50 locations there before expanding to other states.
Cook Out began to grow outside of North Carolina in 2010. The first out-of-state store opened in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on July 30, 2010. More locations opened in South Carolina and Virginia in 2010 and 2011.
In 2013, Cook Out opened new restaurants in Georgia. In 2016, they expanded into Mississippi and Alabama. By May 2021, there were 290 Cook Out locations. They operate in ten different states across the Southeastern United States.
What's on the Menu?

A special item on their menu is the "Cook Out Tray." This tray lets you combine an entree, two sides, and a drink for a good price. It is a very popular choice.
Another big part of Cook Out's menu is their huge selection of milkshakes. They offer more than 40 different flavors! You can find classic flavors like chocolate and vanilla, plus many unique ones.
They also serve a special drink called Cheerwine. This is a cherry-flavored soda. It is a local favorite from North Carolina and is usually only served in North Carolina and nearby states.
