Danilovgrad (Montenegrin: Даниловград) is a town in central Montenegro. It is home to about 6,852 people, based on a 2011 count. The town is part of the Danilovgrad Municipality. This area is located along the main road between Montenegro's two biggest cities, Podgorica and Nikšić. Danilovgrad is also very close to Podgorica.
The town of Danilovgrad is in the Bjelopavlići plain. This is a rich valley near the Zeta River. It is the main town of the Danilovgrad municipality, which has a total population of 18,472 people.

History of Danilovgrad
In the area around Danilovgrad, you can find old ruins called Gradina (Martinići). These ruins date back to the time of the Serbian ruler Petar Gojniković. He was from the Vlastimirović family. Another ruler from this family, Prince Mutimir, built a court there. He was also buried there. Gradina was also an important place during the Nemanjić period. Many believe that Rastko Nemanjić, also known as Saint Sava, was born here. He was the person who started the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Danilovgrad was first planned to be the capital city of Montenegro. King Nikola I started building it in 1870. However, after the cities of Nikšić and Podgorica were freed from Ottoman rule, Danilovgrad became less important. This happened during the Congress of Berlin. The town was named after King Nikola's relative, Prince Danilo.
World War II Events
On May 31, 1944, a USAF plane called a Consolidated B-24 Liberator crashed in Danilovgrad. All 10 crew members safely parachuted out. However, they were later captured and became prisoners of war. On July 23, 1944, a sad event happened in the village of Lazine. At least 48 young people from the League of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia were killed by Chetniks.
During the Yugoslav Wars
From April 14 to 15, 1995, some people from the Romani community had to leave their homes. This happened in a Danilovgrad neighborhood called Božova Glavica.
On March 24, 1999, the Milovan Šaranović barracks in Danilovgrad were bombed. This happened during the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. A soldier named Saša Stojić was killed. He was the first person to die in Montenegro during these bombings.
Climate in Danilovgrad
Danilovgrad has a humid subtropical climate. This means it has cool winters and hot, drier summers. This type of climate is called Cfa by the Köppen climate classification system. On August 8, 2012, Danilovgrad had the highest temperature ever recorded in Montenegro. It reached 44.8 °C (112.6 °F).

Sports in Danilovgrad
Danilovgrad has a local football team called FK Iskra. They have been playing in Montenegro's top football league since 2015. Their home games are held at the Braća Velašević Stadium. The town also has a basketball team, KK Danilovgrad, and a handball club, RK Danilovgrad.
Getting Around Danilovgrad
Danilovgrad is located about halfway between Montenegro's two biggest cities. These are Podgorica and Nikšić. It sits on the main road that connects them. The town also has a train station, served by the Nikšić–Podgorica railway.
Podgorica Airport is about 30 km (19 mi) away. This airport has regular flights to many cities. Some of these include Belgrade, Budapest, Bari, Zagreb, Skopje, Zürich, Frankfurt, Ljubljana, Paris, Rome, and Vienna.
