Dorin Recean (born March 17, 1974) is an important politician from Moldova. He is currently the Prime Minister of Moldova, a role he started in February 2023. Before this, he worked as an advisor to the President on security matters. He also used to be the Minister of Internal Affairs.
Mr. Recean has a background in economics and business. He has worked as a university teacher and in the technology industry. He strongly supports Moldova joining the European Union (EU). He also believes Moldova should work more closely with NATO to keep the country safe.

Early Life and Education
Dorin Recean was born in a place called Dondușeni in the Soviet Union on March 17, 1974. His family later moved to a village named Mîndîc.
In 1996, he finished his studies at the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova. He earned a degree in International Business Management. Later, in 2000, he received a Master's degree in Business Administration from Newport International University in Belgium.
His Career Journey
Teaching and Business
Dorin Recean began his career as a teacher in 1995 at the Academy of Economic Studies. He taught there until 2007. From 2002 to 2010, he also worked for various private companies. He taught at Newport International University in Chișinău from 2000 to 2010 as well.
Getting into Politics
In January 2010, Dorin Recean became the Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology. In this job, he helped create new secure documents, like the biometric passport. This was part of a plan to make it easier for Moldovan citizens to travel to the EU without a visa. He was also part of a government team working on this plan.
In July 2012, he was chosen to be the Minister of Internal Affairs. He continued in this role until February 2015.
After the elections in November 2014, Recean decided to leave politics for a while. He wanted to work in the private business world, focusing on financial technology (Fintech). He helped develop technology for sending money using mobile phones. This aimed to make money transfers safer and cheaper for people working abroad and their families.
On February 7, 2022, President Maia Sandu appointed him as her advisor on security issues. He also became the Secretary General of the Supreme Security Council.
In September 2022, Recean stated that Moldova needed to improve its defense. He said the country could not rely only on its neutral status for safety. He believed Moldova should spend more money on its defense.
Becoming Prime Minister

In February 2023, President Maia Sandu chose Dorin Recean to be the new Prime Minister of Moldova. This happened after the previous Prime Minister resigned. He officially took office on February 16, 2023. Since becoming Prime Minister, Recean has continued to work towards Moldova joining the European Union.
On March 1, he met with the Prime Minister and President of Romania. Both countries promised to improve their economic ties. Romania also confirmed its support for Moldova joining the European Union.
On March 14, Recean announced that Moldova had reached an agreement with the International Monetary Fund. This agreement provided Moldova with $94 million to help its economy. This was part of a larger fund agreed upon in 2022.
On March 24, Moldova and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) announced a new free trade agreement. This means Moldova can export goods to EFTA countries without paying customs fees. The agreement was signed in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. At a summit in Switzerland, Recean also met with representatives from Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Iceland, and Google.
On April 6, he thanked the Prime Minister of Poland for supporting Moldova's faster entry into the European Union.
On May 18, Recean announced that Moldova was no longer using gas or electricity from Russia. He shared this news at a security conference in Bucharest.

Political Beliefs
Dorin Recean believes Moldova should join the European Union (EU). He also supports closer relationships with Western countries. After he was nominated as Prime Minister, he said his government would focus on three main things:
- Keeping order and discipline in the country.
- Making the economy stronger.
- Ensuring peace and stability.
He also stated that his government would continue Moldova's goal of joining the European Union.
Personal Life
Dorin Recean is married to Stella, and they have two children. Besides his native Romanian, he can speak English, French, and Russian.
He also has Romanian citizenship. He considers himself to be an ethnic Romanian.
