Eduard Arranz-Bravo (October 8, 1941 – October 20, 2023) was a famous Spanish painter from Catalonia. He was known for his unique art style. His paintings often showed modern people and their feelings.

Life and Art Journey

Eduard Arranz-Bravo was born on October 8, 1941. His father was from the Basque Country, and his mother was from Argentina. He studied art at the San Jorge Fine Arts School in Barcelona from 1959 to 1962.

Early Exhibitions and Collaborations

In 1961, Eduard had his first art show by himself. It was called "15 paintings by Arranz." A show in 1962 at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona made him well-known.

From 1968 to 1970, he worked with other artists. These included Gerard Sala, Robert Llimós, and Rafael Bartolozzi Lozano. They often worked together until 1982. This teamwork influenced his early art. At first, his art was abstract. Later, it moved towards new ways of showing figures and Pop art.

Working with Rafael Bartolozzi

Eduard Arranz-Bravo and Rafael Bartolozzi often created large artworks together.

  • They painted huge pictures on the walls of the Tipel factory in Parets del Vallès in 1968.
  • They also painted murals at a hotel in Mallorca in 1973.
  • Another famous mural is on the outside of the Barcelona International Centre of Photography. You can still see it today in Barcelona's Raval District.
  • They also painted a mural at Camilo José Cela's home in Mallorca in 1979.

They also had many art shows together. These shows took place in cities like Stockholm, Barcelona, and Madrid. They also made sculptures and published books.

Solo Work and Major Shows

In 1981, Eduard had his first art show completely by himself. In 1982, he showed his "Abraçades" (meaning "Embraces") series. In 1983, a special show looked back at all his art.

From 1986 to 1988, he made a series of art prints called "La casa." He also painted a large artwork called "Pantocràtor." During this time, he worked on films too. He was the art director for Jaime Camino's movies "El balcón abierto" and "Luces y sombras."

Eduard Arranz-Bravo's art was shown in many important places.

  • He took part in the Eighth Salón de Mayo in Barcelona in 1964.
  • His art was in the "Picasso 90" show at the Louvre Museum in 1971.

In 2019, he designed the art for the outside of a cruise ship. This ship was the Norwegian Encore for Norwegian Cruise Line. It was launched in Miami in November 2019.

In 2020, a big project was finished. This was the restoration of the painting at the Tipel Factory in Parets del Vallès.
