Emmaboda Municipality (Emmaboda kommun) is a special area, like a county, in southeastern Sweden. It's located in Kalmar County. The main town and administrative center is Emmaboda.
This municipality was created in 1971. Before that, Emmaboda was a market town. It then joined with three smaller country areas to form the municipality we know today.

Emmaboda Municipality shares its borders with several other municipalities. In Kalmar County, it touches Nybro, Kalmar, and Torsås. It also borders Karlskrona and Ronneby in Blekinge County. Additionally, it connects with Tingsryd and Lessebo in Kronoberg County.
The closest big cities nearby are Kalmar, Karlskrona, Växjö, and Nybro. These cities offer many services and attractions.
The Realm of Glass
Emmaboda is part of an area called Glasriket, which means The Realm of Glass. People have been making beautiful glass products here since at least the 1600s. These glass items were then sent all over Sweden.
The glass factories in Emmaboda municipality include Johansfors, Åfors, and Boda. Boda is especially famous because it helps supply glass for the well-known glass sculptor Kosta Boda.

Culture and History in Emmaboda
The Emigrants' Story
The famous books The Emigrants by Vilhelm Moberg have made many places in Emmaboda known worldwide. These books tell the story of Swedish people moving to North America.
Vilhelm Moberg himself was born on a farm near Emmaboda in 1898. Today, a monument stone stands there since 1970. You can also visit a small museum about the author nearby. The village of Duvemåla, where the main characters Karl Oskar and Kristina live in the novels, is also located in the municipality.
Historical Rebellions
Historically, the thick forests in this area were important during Nils Dacke's rebellion in the 1500s. Dacke fought against King Gustav Vasa, causing the king a lot of trouble for a while. Eventually, the king sent troops from other parts of Sweden to stop the rebellion. Today, you can find several historical sites and folk museums in the area that honor this time.
Music Festival Fun
Every August, Emmaboda hosts a music festival called Emmabodafestivalen. This festival features various indie bands, mostly from Sweden. For example, in 2006, artists like José González and Hello Saferide performed there.
Local Industry
The biggest employer in Emmaboda is ITT Water & Wastewater. This company is known worldwide for its special pumps and mixers. These are used for treating wastewater and for pumping in places like mines, construction sites, and factories. About 1,400 people work for this company in the municipality.
