Frank Wilton Marshall (born September 13, 1946) is a famous American film producer and director. He has helped create many of your favorite movies! He often works with his wife, Kathleen Kennedy, who is also a well-known producer.
Together, they started a company called Amblin Entertainment with director Steven Spielberg. Later, Frank and Kathleen also founded The Kennedy/Marshall Company. Frank Marshall has worked on huge movie series like Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Bourne, and Jurassic World.
He has been nominated five times for the Academy Award for Best Picture, which is one of the highest honors in movies. He has also won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award, making him one of the few people to achieve this!

Early Life and School
Frank Marshall was born in Glendale, California. His dad, Jack Marshall, was a musician and composer. Frank spent his early years in Van Nuys, California.
In 1961, his family moved to Newport Beach. There, he went to Newport Harbor High School. He was very active in music, drama, and sports like cross country and track. In 1964, he started college at UCLA. He studied engineering at first, but later changed to Political science. He graduated in 1968. While at UCLA, he even helped start the school's first NCAA soccer team!
Amazing Career in Movies
Frank Marshall's journey in movies began in 1966. He met film director Peter Bogdanovich at a party. Frank offered to work on Bogdanovich's first movie, Targets (1968). This was like his film school, where he learned many different jobs on a movie set. He even had a small acting part!
After college, Frank worked for a couple of years as a waiter and guitar player. But in 1970, Bogdanovich called him again. He offered Frank a job on the movie The Last Picture Show (1971). Frank quickly became a location manager and an actor in this important film. He continued to work with Bogdanovich, learning more and more about making movies.
He also worked with other famous directors like Martin Scorsese and Walter Hill. In 1979, he got his first credit as an executive producer for The Warriors. His first producer credit was for the huge hit Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), which he made with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.
Founding Amblin Entertainment
In 1981, Frank Marshall, his future wife Kathleen Kennedy, and Steven Spielberg started Amblin Entertainment. This company became one of the most successful in the film industry. As a producer, Frank has been nominated for five Oscars for Best Picture. These movies include Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), The Color Purple (1985), The Sixth Sense (1999), Seabiscuit (2003), and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008).
Directing His Own Films
Frank Marshall also became a director! His first movie as a director was the thriller Arachnophobia (1990), which starred Jeff Daniels. In 1991, he and Kathleen Kennedy started their own company, The Kennedy/Marshall Company.
He directed their first film, Alive (1993). This movie was about a rugby team that crashed in the Andes mountains and had to survive in the snow. Next, he directed Congo (1995), based on a book by Michael Crichton. He also directed Eight Below (2006), an adventure story about loyal dogs in Antarctica.
Frank has also directed documentaries. These include The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart (2020) and Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story (2022). He even directed an episode for the HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon (1998).
Producing Blockbusters and More
Since 2012, Frank Marshall has been the main leader of The Kennedy/Marshall Company. He has helped produce many more films, TV shows, and even Broadway musicals.
Some of his recent big projects include the Jurassic World series and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023). He also produced the Tony-award-winning musical A Strange Loop in 2022. In 2024, he directed The Beach Boys documentary for Disney+ and produced TWISTERS for Universal Pictures.
Personal Life and Hobbies
Frank Marshall has also been very involved in sports. He was a vice president and board member for the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC). He received the Olympic Shield in 2005 for his service.
He loves magic and music! He has even performed as "Dr. Fantasy" or "DJ Master Frank." Frank is also a long-distance runner. He helped start the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series in 1998, which became a very popular marathon event.
