Galmiz was once a small town, or municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Fribourg. Its old French name was Charmey.
On January 1, 2022, Galmiz joined with two other municipalities. These were Gempenach and Clavaleyres (from the Canton of Bern). They all became part of the larger municipality of Murten.

History of Galmiz
Galmiz is a very old settlement. It was first written about in official papers in the year 1242. At that time, it was known as Chalmitis.
Later, in 1340, its name changed. It was then called Charmey.
Where is Galmiz?
Galmiz covers an area of about 9.1 square kilometers (about 3.5 square miles). This information is from 2009.
Most of the land, about 70.5%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 18.7% of the area. Buildings and roads take up about 7.8% of the land. A small part, 0.8%, is made up of rivers or lakes. The remaining 2.1% is land that cannot be used for farming or building.
Galmiz is located in the See/Lac district. It sits near the edge of the Grosses Moos wetlands. It is about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) north-east of the town of Murten. Galmiz itself is a linear village, meaning its buildings are mostly spread out along a road.

Education in Galmiz
The school system in the Canton of Fribourg has several levels. It starts with one year of optional Kindergarten. After that, students go to six years of Primary school.
Then comes three years of required lower Secondary school. Here, students are grouped based on their skills. After this, students can choose to go to an optional upper Secondary school for three or four years. This can be a gymnasium (which prepares students for university) or a vocational program (which teaches job skills). After upper Secondary, students can go to a higher education school or start an apprenticeship.

One student attended a specialized higher education program in a different town.

Transportation in Galmiz
Galmiz has its own railway station, called Galmiz. It is on the Palézieux–Lyss railway line.
Trains from Galmiz go regularly to cities like Lausanne, Bern, and Kerzers. This makes it easy for people to travel to and from the town.
