The Glâne District is one of seven districts in the Canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It's a region with many towns and villages. As of 31 December 2020, about 24,957 people live here. The district is named after the Glâne River, which flows through the area. Its capital city is Romont.

Changes Over Time
Over the years, some municipalities in Glâne have joined together or changed their names. This happens to make local government more efficient. For example, in 2020, the towns of La Folliaz and Villaz-Saint-Pierre merged to become the new municipality of Villaz.
District Symbol
The Glâne District has its own special symbol, called a blazon or coat of arms. It is a red shield with a silver castle on it. The castle has two towers, and the one on the right side is taller than the one on the left.

As of as of December 2020[update], the Glâne District has 24,957 people. Most people (about 92%) speak French as their main language. Some others speak German (about 2.5%) or Portuguese (about 2.4%). A few people also speak Italian or Romansh.
Where People Come From
In 2000, about 36.5% of the people living in Glâne were born there. About 33% were born in the same canton (Fribourg). Around 16% came from other parts of Switzerland, and about 12% were born outside of Switzerland.
Age Groups
In 2000, about 14.3% of the population were children aged 0-9. Another 14.3% were teenagers aged 10-19. Adults aged 20-59 made up about 54% of the population. People aged 60 and older made up about 17.5%.

How People Vote
In Switzerland, people vote in federal elections to choose their representatives. In the 2011 election, the most popular political party in Glâne was the SVP. They received about 26.6% of the votes. Other popular parties included the CVP (24.3%), the SP (22.3%), and the FDP (10.9%).
Religious Beliefs
According to the 2000 census (a count of the population), most people in Glâne are Roman Catholic (about 79%). About 7.6% belong to the Swiss Reformed Church. There are also smaller groups of people who are Orthodox Christians, Muslims, or Buddhists. About 5.7% of the population said they did not belong to any church.

Education Levels
About 29.9% of people in Glâne have finished upper secondary education. This is schooling after primary school, but before university. About 8.4% have gone on to higher education, like a university.
The School System
The school system in the Canton of Fribourg, where Glâne is located, works like this:
- Kids can go to one year of non-required Kindergarten.
- Then, they attend six years of Primary school.
- After that, there are three years of required lower Secondary school. Students are placed into different groups based on their skills.
- Next, students can choose to go to an optional three or four-year upper Secondary school. This can be a gymnasium (which prepares them for university) or a vocational program (which teaches job skills).
- After upper Secondary, students can go to a Tertiary school (like a university) or start an apprenticeship (on-the-job training).
Student Numbers
During the 2010–2011 school year, there were 3,139 students in Glâne attending 173 classes. This included 454 kindergarten students, 1,577 primary students, and 925 lower secondary students.
