Greta Scacchi (born 18 February 1960) is a talented actress. She is well-known for her roles in movies like White Mischief (1987), Presumed Innocent (1990), and Looking for Alibrandi (2000).
Greta Scacchi got her first main role in the romantic movie Heat and Dust (1983). For this role, she was nominated for a BAFTA Award. She also won an Emmy Award for playing Alexandra of Hesse in the TV film Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny (1996). She was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award for this role. Later, she received another Emmy nomination for the TV Western movie Broken Trail (2006).

Early Life and Education
Greta Scacchi was born in Milan, Italy, on 18 February 1960. Her father, Luca Scacchi, was an Italian art dealer. Her mother, Pamela Risbey, was an English dancer. When Greta was four, her parents divorced. Her mother moved back to England with Greta and her two older brothers. They lived in London and then in Haywards Heath.
In 1975, Greta's family moved to Perth, Western Australia. There, her stepfather was a professor at the University of Western Australia (UWA). While in Perth, Greta went to Hollywood Senior High School. She also joined UWA's drama club. She performed in her first play, Early Morning, at the New Dolphin Theatre.
Acting Career
Greta Scacchi's first TV role was in the show Bergerac in 1981. She played a model in one episode. The next year, she made her first movie, a German film called Second Sight
.Her first big role was in the British movie Heat and Dust (1983). This role earned her a BAFTA nomination. She then appeared in many other films, including The Coca-Cola Kid (1985), White Mischief (1987), Presumed Innocent (1990), and The Player (1992). She chose not to take the role of Catherine Trammell in Basic Instinct (1992).
In 1996, Greta won an Emmy Award for her role as Alexandra of Hesse in the TV movie Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny. She was also nominated for a Golden Globe. In 1999, she starred in the Australian film Looking for Alibrandi. She played an Italian-Australian single mother. For this role, she won the AFI Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2000.
In 2007, Greta Scacchi was nominated for another Emmy Award. This was for her role in the TV miniseries Broken Trail.
Greta can speak several languages fluently. She speaks English, French, German, and Italian. This has helped her get roles in many European films.
Theatre Work
Greta Scacchi has also performed in many plays. Early in her career, she appeared in In Times Like These and Cider with Rosie. In 1987, she was in Uncle Vanya in London. In 1991, she played Nora in Ibsen's A Doll's House in Perth, Australia. A year later, she played the main role in Miss Julie in Sydney.
She continued to perform on stage in Australia and Europe. In 2004, she toured Italy with an Italian version of Old Times. In 2005, she was in Noël Coward's Private Lives. In 2008, she played Queen Elizabeth in Mary Stuart in Sydney. She was nominated for a Sydney Theatre Best Actress Award for this role.
In 2010, Greta took over a role in the musical A Little Night Music in Paris. She sang the famous song "Send In The Clowns." In 2011, she played Bette Davis in the play Bette and Joan in London. In 2013, she performed in William Shakespeare's King Lear in London.
In 2016, Greta played Phoebe Rice in The Entertainer in London. Her performance received very good reviews. In June 2024, she returned to her role as Joan in the TV series Darby and Joan for its second season.
Personal Life
Greta Scacchi is a citizen of Italy by birth. She also has citizenship in Australia and the United Kingdom.
From 1983 to 1989, Greta was in a relationship with New Zealand musician Tim Finn. She later had a relationship with American actor Vincent D'Onofrio. They have a daughter together, actress Leila George. Greta also has a son.
Greta Scacchi cares a lot about the environment. She supports groups like Greenpeace and Christian Aid's climate change campaigns. She also leads the Fishlove campaign, where famous actors pose for photos with fish to raise awareness.
In October 2013, Greta Scacchi received a special award from Italy. She was named a Knight in the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic for her contributions to the arts.
