Discovering the High Peak Estate
The National Trust looks after many beautiful and important places. The High Peak Estate is one of these areas. From summer 2010, this estate became known as the 'Dark Peak Area'. It is now part of the larger Peak District Estate.
This bigger Peak District Estate also includes other well-known places. These are the White Peak Estate (which used to be called the South Peak Estate) and the Longshaw Estate. The Longshaw Estate is located close to Sheffield.

Alport Castles
- Alport Castles is a truly spectacular natural landslide. It looks like a huge, rocky castle. This amazing landslip happened a long time ago.
Bleaklow
- Bleaklow is a massive area of wild, windswept moorland. It feels very remote and peaceful. It's a great place for hiking and enjoying nature.
Derwent Edge
- Derwent Edge offers incredible views across the landscape. It's known for its unique rock formations. These rocks have been shaped by wind and weather over many years.
Kinder Scout
- Kinder Scout is a large, flat area of moorland high up in the hills. It is the highest point in the entire Peak District. In 1932, it was the site of the famous Mass Trespass. This event helped people gain the right to walk freely on open land.
Mam Tor
- Mam Tor is a hill known as the "Shivering Mountain." It's famous for its unstable slopes. You can see ancient hill forts and old roads here.
Odin Mine
