ISO 3166-2:PY facts for kids
ISO 3166-2:PY is a special code system for Paraguay. It's part of a bigger set of codes called ISO 3166. These codes are made by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Their job is to give unique codes to the main parts of every country, like provinces, departments, or states.
For Paraguay, these codes are used for its capital city and its 17 departments. The capital, Asunción, is treated like a department in this system.
Each code has two parts, separated by a dash. The first part is always PY, which stands for Paraguay. The second part is either:
- Two numbers (from 1 to 16, and 19) for the departments.
- Three letters for the capital city, Asunción.
