Jared Francisco Borgetti Echavarría (born on August 14, 1973) is a famous Mexican former professional footballer. He was known for scoring many goals for both his clubs and the national team. He was also very good at heading the ball.
Jared Borgetti is the second-highest goal scorer for the Mexican national team with 46 goals. Only Javier Hernández has scored more. He is also the top scorer for Santos Laguna with 205 goals. People often called him El Zorro del Desierto, which means "The Desert Fox". This nickname came from his first team, Atlas, and where he was born. Today, he works as a football commentator.

Club Career Highlights
Jared Borgetti started his club career with Atlas in Mexico's top league on March 6, 1994. He then moved to Santos Laguna, where he became a star.
Playing for Santos Laguna
Borgetti played for Santos Laguna for seven years. During this time, he won the "golden boot" award three times for scoring the most goals in a season. He also helped Santos win two league championships. He later played for Dorados de Sinaloa and Pachuca in Mexico.
Time with Bolton Wanderers
On August 4, 2005, Borgetti made history. He signed with the English club Bolton Wanderers. This made him the first Mexican player to join an English football club.
He played his first game in England on August 24, 2005. It was a Premier League match against Newcastle United. He scored his first goal for Bolton in a UEFA Cup game on September 15. He ended that season with seven goals in total.
Moving to Al-Ittihad
After playing for Bolton, Borgetti moved to the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad. He made a great start, scoring two goals in his first game on September 9, 2006. He left the club in December 2006.
Returning to Mexico
Borgetti returned to Mexico and joined Cruz Azul in late 2006. He later played for Monterrey, where he scored his first goal against Tigres UANL.
In 2009, he joined Guadalajara. He said it was a dream to play for a team where all players were Mexican. He also played for Puebla and Monarcas Morelia. On April 24, 2010, he scored his 250th goal in the Mexican league. This made him the third-highest goal scorer in the league's history.
His last club was Club León in 2010. After that season, he announced his retirement from professional football on December 5, 2010.
International Career
Jared Borgetti first played for the Mexican national team on February 5, 1997. He became a regular player during the qualification games for the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
He scored important goals for Mexico in big tournaments. These included the 2001 Copa América, the 2002 World Cup, and the 2004 Copa América.
One of his best tournaments was the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup. He scored three goals against strong teams like Brazil and Germany. He helped Mexico finish in fourth place. In a game against Brazil, he famously scored the winning goal after having to retake a penalty kick twice.
In 2007, Borgetti scored two goals in three minutes against Paraguay. He also scored two goals in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup. In the final of that tournament, he got injured and could not play in the 2007 Copa América.
Personal Life
Jared Borgetti has Italian family roots. His grandfather moved from Italy to Mexico. Because of this, Jared was able to get an Italian passport. He said he did this so he could play football in England as a EU player. This meant he wasn't counted as a "foreign" player.
