Jared Francisco Borgetti Echavarría (born on August 14, 1973) is a famous Mexican former football player. He is known for being a great goal scorer. Today, he works as a sports commentator for ESPN.
Jared Borgetti was especially good at scoring goals with his head. He played for Santos Laguna for many years and became their all-time top scorer. He is also the third-highest scorer in the history of the Mexican football league.
For his country, Mexico, Borgetti played in over 80 games and scored 46 goals. This makes him the second-highest scorer ever for the Mexican national team. He played for Mexico in the FIFA World Cup in 2002 and 2006.

Jared Borgetti's Club Career
Starting with Atlas and Santos Laguna
Borgetti started his professional football journey with Atlas in Mexico's top league on March 6, 1994. After playing well for two seasons, he joined Santos Laguna. This was a very important move for him.
At Santos Laguna, he became a superstar. He won the "golden boot" award three times for scoring the most goals in a season. He also helped Santos win two league championships. Later, he played for Dorados de Sinaloa and Pachuca before moving to England.
Playing in England: Bolton Wanderers
On August 4, 2005, Borgetti made a big move. He signed a two-year deal with the English club Bolton Wanderers. He was the first Mexican player to ever play for an English team!
He played his first game in England on August 24, 2005, helping Bolton win against Newcastle United. He scored his first goal for Bolton in a UEFA Cup game on September 15. He scored seven goals in total for Bolton during that season.
Adventures in Saudi Arabia and Return to Mexico
After playing for Bolton, Borgetti moved to Saudi Arabia and joined Al-Ittihad. He scored two goals in his first game there on September 9, 2006. He left Al-Ittihad in December 2006.
He then returned to Mexico and signed with Cruz Azul in late 2006. In 2007, he was called to play for the Mexican national team again. After Cruz Azul, he played for Monterrey in 2008.
Later Career: Guadalajara, Puebla, Morelia, and León
In 2009, Borgetti joined Guadalajara. He had always dreamed of playing for a team made up only of Mexican players. He played in the 2009 Copa Libertadores tournament.
After Guadalajara, he signed with Puebla in June 2009. He scored his first goal for Puebla on August 9, 2009. He continued to score important goals for them.
In December 2009, he signed with Monarcas Morelia. On February 13, 2010, he scored his 249th goal in the Mexican league, tying him for third place all-time. He later scored his 250th goal, taking sole possession of third place.
Borgetti then played for Club León in 2010. After that season, on December 5, 2010, he announced that he was retiring from professional football.
Jared Borgetti's International Career
Jared Borgetti first played for the Mexican national team on February 5, 1997. He became a regular player for Mexico during the qualification games for the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
He scored important goals for Mexico in big tournaments like the 2001 Copa América, the 2002 World Cup, and the 2004 Copa América.
One of his best tournaments was the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup. He scored three goals against strong teams like Brazil and Germany. He helped Mexico finish in fourth place in that competition.
In 2007, Borgetti continued to play well for Mexico. He scored two goals in a game against Paraguay and two more in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He got injured in the Gold Cup final, which meant he couldn't play in the 2007 Copa América.
Jared Borgetti's Personal Life
Jared Borgetti has Italian family roots. His grandfather moved to Mexico from Italy. Because of this, Jared was able to get an Italian passport. He said he did this so he could play football in England more easily, as it allowed him to be considered an EU player.
