Keith Scott is an Australian voice actor, comedian, and impressionist. He is also a historian who studies animation. He was born on October 29, 1953.
Keith Scott's Amazing Voice Career
Keith Scott loved watching people who could do different voices on TV shows like The Ed Sullivan Show when he was young. He started practicing voices in high school. He could copy cartoon characters, like Mr. Jinks, and even his teachers.
Starting in Voice Acting
After high school in 1972, Keith got a job at Hanna-Barbera in Sydney, Australia. William Hanna, the boss, hired him. Keith had shown them letters from Daws Butler, a famous voice actor for characters like Yogi Bear. This helped Keith get an agent, and his voice-over career began.
By 1974, Keith was doing many voices for radio and TV commercials. People in Sydney clubs knew him as "the Voice of 1000 Commercials." He also appeared on TV shows as a comic impressionist, like Hey Hey It's Saturday.
Voices for Australian Cartoons
Keith has lent his voice to many Australian cartoons. These include Yoram Gross's Dot movies, Blinky Bill, Tabaluga, Skippy: Adventures in Bushtown, and Flipper and Lopaka. For Yoram Gross's cartoons, Keith often did all the male character voices. You can also hear his voices on many radio stations across Australia in a show called How Green Was My Cactus.
Becoming a Famous Cartoon Voice
Keith became known around the world for how well he could copy cartoon characters. In 1990, after the famous voice actor Mel Blanc passed away, Keith became an official voice for Warner Bros' Looney Tunes characters in Australia. He voiced Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety, Sylvester, and others. He used these voices for TV commercials, live shows, and promotions for places like Warner Bros. Movie World.
Keith had met Mel Blanc in 1985. They even traded voice impressions! Keith could do Elmer Fudd, and Blanc did Bugs Bunny. Keith was also approved by Hanna-Barbera to voice characters like Fred Flintstone and Yogi Bear.
Working with Jay Ward Productions
Keith was good friends with Bill Scott and Jay Ward, who created The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends. After Jay Ward passed away, his daughter Tiffany took over the company. Keith had made a tape of his impressions of characters like Bullwinkle J. Moose and Boris Badenov. Tiffany heard the tape and was so impressed that she made him the official voice for these characters in 1992.
Keith voiced the narrator in the movies George of the Jungle and George of the Jungle 2. He also voiced Bullwinkle, Boris, Fearless Leader, and the Narrator in the 2000 movie The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle. Keith is an expert on Jay Ward Productions and wrote a book about it called The Moose That Roared.
In 2000, Keith was supposed to voice Diesel 10 in Thomas and the Magic Railroad. However, his voice was too scary for young children, so Neil Crone replaced him. You can still hear Keith's voice in early trailers for the film. Keith also narrated commercials for Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends toys in Australia in 1998.
Animation History Expert
Keith has spent many years studying early voice actors in cartoons. He tries to find out who voiced characters when they weren't given credit. In 2022, he published a book called Cartoon Voices of the Golden Age, Vol. 1-2.
