Lachi is a talented American singer, songwriter, and performer from New York City. She is known for her exciting Pop and Dance music. Lachi is also a strong advocate for people with disabilities and started an organization called RAMPD.

About Lachi's Life
Early Years and Education
Lachi was born in Maryland. Her parents moved to the United States from Nigeria. She lived in many different places while growing up, including upstate New York, West Philadelphia, and North Carolina. Lachi is legally blind because of a condition called Coloboma.
She went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There, she started an all-female singing group called The UNC Cadence. After college, Lachi moved to New York City to follow her dreams in music and writing. She also studied music at New York University.
Starting Her Career
Lachi performed at a music event called South by Southwest. There, she was noticed by Fanatic Records/EMI, who signed her to make an album. Her first album, Lachi, came out on July 27, 2010. It included a song called "We Can Fly." During this time, Lachi was featured on popular shows like Oprah Radio and NPR. She also performed at PrideFest (Milwaukee), opening for the famous singer Patti LaBelle.

Collaborations and Hit Songs
Lachi has worked with many different artists. In 2016, she teamed up with Israeli producer Zafrir Ifrach to create the dance song "Dalale." This song became very popular, getting over a million views on YouTube.
Later, she worked with Trend Def studios to write and produce "Rude," which featured the famous rapper Snoop Dogg. In 2017, she released "Living A Lie" with Styles P. She also collaborated with Markus Schulz on a song called "Far." This song was featured on his 2018 album, We Are The Light. Another DJ, Armin van Buuren, chose "Far" for his mix album in 2019. In 2019, Lachi wrote and performed "Go" with Drum and Bass producer Maduk. This song was used in several video games.
Recent Music and Recognition
In March 2020, Lachi was nominated for her second Independent Music Award. This was for her a cappella version of the song Money by Cardi B. By 2021, Lachi's music and her advocacy work started to connect more. She became a Co-chair for The Recording Academy New York Chapter Advocacy Committee.
In March 2022, Lachi received a grant to create "Black Girl Cornrows." This Dance-pop song is about self-expression and Visual description. It was written, performed, and produced by Lachi. By June 2022, Lachi was elected to the Board of Governors for the Recording Academy New York Chapter. She was also named the chapter's DEI Ambassador.
In July 2023, Lachi released "Lift Me Up." This alternative pop song honored her mentor and friend, disability rights activist Judy Heumann. July is also Disability Pride Month. The song, made with James Ian and featuring Gaelynn Lea, was shown on MTV.com. Its music video highlighted American Sign Language and Audio description. It featured notable talents like Amber Galloway and Ali Stroker. The song received a Shorty Award and other honors.
In 2024, Lachi started the "Mad Different" project. This was a four-part acoustic concert series. It featured collaborations with artists from different communities. Starting in 2022, RAMPD began working with the Recording Academy. They helped make the Grammy Awards more accessible. This included adding ramps, Sign language interpreters, live captions, and Audio description.

Throughout 2021 and 2022, Lachi became a leading voice for disability advocacy in music. She spoke and performed at important places like the White House, the United Nations, and the Kennedy Center. By 2023, Lachi was recognized for connecting disability and pop culture. She appeared on shows like Good Morning America and in Google accessibility commercials. In November 2023, Lachi gave a TEDx talk. She spoke and performed songs about disability identity and pride.
In February 2024, USA Today named Lachi a 2024 Woman of the Year. In October 2024, Lachi hosted the Webby Award-winning PBS series Renegades.
