What is the Puerto Vallarta Airport Like?
This airport is mostly for tourists. Many people visit in winter, spring, and early summer. This is just before the rainy season starts. The airport connects Puerto Vallarta to many places in North America. For example, a British airline called TUI Airways flies here weekly from Manchester.
Busiest Routes and Airlines
Some of the busiest international flights from this airport go to Los Angeles, Dallas, and Phoenix. More than 130,000 passengers travel these routes each year. WestJet is an airline that connects Puerto Vallarta to many Canadian cities. During the busy travel season, it flies to 11 different Canadian cities.
Inside the Airport Terminal
The airport building has two floors. It is split into two main areas: Hall A and Hall B.
- The first floor is where you check in for your flight. It also has the area for international arrivals. You can find some places to eat here too.
- The upper floor has many food places and shops. This is also where you go through the security checkpoint. There is a special VIP Lounge and duty-free shops. This floor is also where you wait for your flight to depart.
Hall A is for flights within Mexico. Hall B is for international flights.
How the Airport is Growing
Puerto Vallarta and the nearby Riviera Nayarit area have become very popular. Because of this, the airport has grown a lot. Many airlines have added more flights. New airlines have also started flying here.
In 2020, the company that runs the airport, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, announced big plans. They are investing about $4 billion Mexican pesos. This money will be used to build a new terminal. This new building will be 35,000 square meters. It will help the airport handle 60% more passengers! They are also building a new bus terminal and improving the parking lots. This big project is part of a larger plan for airports in Jalisco state. It is expected to be finished by 2024.
