List of books of the King James Version facts for kids
The Bible is a very old and important collection of books. It tells stories, laws, poems, and prophecies that are central to Christianity and Judaism. Over time, different versions of the Bible have been created. This page helps you understand the different names for the books of the Bible in three important versions: the King James Version (KJV), the Douay Rheims Bible, and the Latin Vulgate.
The King James Version is a famous English translation. The Douay-Rheims Bible is another important English translation, especially for Catholics. The Latin Vulgate is a very old Latin translation of the Bible. Sometimes, the same book has a slightly different name or number in these different versions! This list helps you find your way around them.
About These Bible Versions
The King James Bible has 80 books in total. These are divided into three main parts:
- 39 books in the Old Testament
- 14 books in the Apocrypha
- 27 books in the New Testament
One interesting difference is how the Psalms are numbered. In the Latin Vulgate, the Psalms often have a number that is one less than in the King James Version. This is because they follow different ancient traditions for counting them.
