List of covered bridges in Connecticut facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

This page is all about the amazing covered bridges in Connecticut. A covered bridge is a special type of bridge that has walls and a roof, making it look like a long, covered hallway. This covering helps protect the wooden parts of the bridge from rain and snow, which makes the bridge last much longer!

As of 2021, Connecticut has nine real covered bridges. Three of these are very old and important because of their history. A bridge is called "authentic" not just because it's old, but because of how it's built. Authentic covered bridges use a special strong framework called a truss to hold them up. Other bridges might use simpler supports called stringers, but these aren't considered authentic covered bridges.
