Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Superman, the famous superhero, has starred in many video games over the years. The very first game featuring him came out in 1979, after the popular Superman movie.

Sadly, many Superman games haven't been very good. A famous example is the 1999 Nintendo 64 game, often called Superman 64. Many people think it's one of the worst video games ever made! But there are still many interesting games where you can play as the Man of Steel.

1979 – Atari 2600
Notes:
  • In this game, you play as Superman. Your mission is to fix a bridge destroyed by Lex Luthor, catch Luthor and his helpers, and then quickly change back into Clark Kent to return to the Daily Planet newspaper.
  • Kryptonite makes Superman lose his powers. To get them back, he has to find and kiss Lois Lane.
  • This was one of the first console games to let you pause the action!

  • This game first came out for the Commodore 64. It was later released on other systems too.
  • You could even play as Superman's enemy, Darkseid!

  • This action game by Taito let a second player join in as a red-suited Superman.

  • This game mixed different types of action, including 3D flying, top-down views, and side-scrolling parts.

  • This was a side-scrolling action game. You guided Superman through levels to defeat villains, ending with the evil supervillain Brainiac. In Europe, it was called Superman: The Man of Steel.

  • Also known as Superman 64, this 3D action game had you control Superman. He had to save his friends from a fake version of Metropolis.
  • This game is famous for being one of the worst games ever made. People complained about bad controls and strange glitches.

Notes:
  • This game was based on Superman: The Animated Series. It used a special art style to look like a cartoon. The original voice actors from the show also returned for the game.

  • This game brought together characters from the Mortal Kombat series and the DC Universe, including Superman.
  • In his ending, Superman worked with Shazam to create a new suit that protected him from magic.

  • This fighting game was made by the creators of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Superman was a playable character.
  • In the story, an alternate version of Superman becomes a bad guy after the Joker tricks him into doing terrible things.

  • This was the next Lego Batman game. Superman's voice actor returned.

  • This was a free online battle game based on the Infinite Crisis comic book. Superman was a playable character.

  • In this game, the Suicide Squad tries to defeat Brainiac. Brainiac has taken over Earth and brainwashed the Justice League.
