History of IONIS Education Group
How it Started
Marc Sellam created the group in Paris in 1980. It began as a business school called the Institut supérieur européen de gestion group. This school had a different way of teaching compared to other big French schools.
During the 1980s, new colleges were opened in other cities. These included Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lille, Strasbourg, Nantes, and Lyon. In 1993, another business school was founded. It was called the Institut supérieur européen de formation par l'action. This school offered three years of study after high school.
Growing Bigger
In 1997, the group, then called Intelsup, bought a computer science college. This college was the École pour l'informatique et les techniques avancées. In 1997 and 1998, they bought two more schools. These were the business school Institut supérieur de gestion and an engineering college. The engineering college focused on airplanes and space, called Institut polytechnique des sciences avancées.
In 1999, the group created a new computer science school. It was named the École pour l'informatique et les nouvelles technologies. In 2001, they opened E-Artsup, a college for digital design. The name IONIS Education Group was chosen in 2002. By then, all their colleges offered five-year courses.
New Schools and Plans
In 2003, IONIS entered the biotechnology field. They opened the Institut Sup'Biotech de Paris. In 2004, they bought ICS Bégué, an accountancy college started in 1957. In 2006, they acquired École spéciale de mécanique et électricité. This engineering college was founded in 1905.
More regional colleges opened between 2007 and 2008. These were in cities like Marseille, Nancy, and Nice. In 2009, the group launched IONIS Executive Learning. They also started the IONIS School of Technology and Management. By 2010, ISEG became three separate schools. These focused on finance, marketing, and business. In 2011, Sup'Internet, a college for internet studies, opened.
In 2013, the group shared its plans for the next ten years. They wanted to grow internationally and offer more social services. They also aimed to offer more varied courses.
