History of Margate City
Margate was started in the 1950s. Back then, much of the area was either part of the Everglades or used for farmland. As more people moved to Florida, land development grew.
The area officially became a town in 1955. Later, in 1961, it was recognized as a city. The name "Margate" comes from a mix of words. It uses the first part of the founder's last name, Jack Marqusee. It also uses the first part of the word gateway. This is because the city was seen as a "gateway" to the western part of Broward County.
Today, Margate has fun places for everyone. You can visit Calypso Cove, a popular waterpark. There are also two golf courses: The Carolina Golf Club and the Oriole Golf and Tennis Club.
