Early life and musical beginnings
Miles Kane was born in Birkenhead, England. He grew up in a nearby town called Meols. When he was a child, he played the saxophone before he learned to play the guitar. His cousins, James and Ian Skelly, were founding members of the band The Coral. They had a big influence on Miles's music taste as he grew up.
Music career
Band projects
Miles Kane has been part of several bands throughout his career.
The Little Flames
When Miles was 18, he joined The Little Flames in December 2004. He played the guitar in this band. They signed with a record label called Deltasonic. People compared them to other popular bands like The Coral and Arctic Monkeys. The band also toured with these groups. The Little Flames broke up in 2007 before their first album was released. The album eventually came out in 2016.
The Rascals
After The Little Flames, Miles formed The Rascals. He was the singer and played lead guitar. Greg Mighall played drums and Joe Edwards played bass guitar. Miles wrote most of the songs for the band. They signed with Deltasonic Records again.
The Rascals released their first EP, Out of Dreams, in December 2007. It had four songs. They became known as a band to watch, especially by NME magazine. This happened after they supported the Arctic Monkeys on tour in 2007. Their first album, Rascalize, came out in June 2008. The Rascals also had a small part in the film Awaydays. They played a cover song by Echo & the Bunnymen.
The Last Shadow Puppets
While touring with the Arctic Monkeys, Miles Kane and their lead singer Alex Turner started writing songs together. They found they worked well as a team. This led to the creation of The Last Shadow Puppets. The two musicians went to France with producer James Ford. They recorded their first album, The Age of the Understatement, in just two weeks.
Their album quickly reached number 1 on the UK Album Charts. The song of the same name also hit number 1 on the Indie Single Charts. They played their first live show in the UK at Glastonbury Festival. They even had a special guest, Jack White. The band's album was nominated for the Nationwide Mercury Music Prize. They also won the Mojo Breakthrough Award.
In December 2015, the band announced that a second album would be released in spring 2016. Owen Pallett, who helped with the string music on their first album, confirmed he was working on the new one. Producer James Ford also said the second album was finished.
On 10 January 2016, The Last Shadow Puppets released their first new song since 2008, called "Bad Habits". On 21 January 2016, they announced their second album would be named Everything You've Come to Expect. All three original members returned, and Zach Dawes joined on bass.
