Band Projects
The Little Flames
When Miles Kane was 18, he joined a band called The Little Flames in December 2004. He played the guitar for the band. They signed with a record company called Deltasonic. People often compared them to other bands like the Coral and the Arctic Monkeys. The Little Flames also toured with these bands and others like the Zutons and the Dead 60s. The band broke up in 2007 before their first album was released. That album eventually came out in 2016.
The Rascals
After The Little Flames, Miles Kane became the lead singer and guitarist for The Rascals. Greg Mighall played drums, and Joe Edwards played bass guitar and sang backup. Miles Kane was the main songwriter for this band. The band members had known each other since they were kids. They also signed with Deltasonic Records.
The Rascals released their first collection of songs, called an EP, in December 2007. It was titled Out of Dreams and had four songs. Even though it didn't become a big hit, many people noticed them. The music magazine NME especially supported them after they opened for the Arctic Monkeys on their 2007 tour. The Rascals' first album, 'Rascalize', was released in June 2008. The band also had a small part in the movie Awaydays, where they played a cover song by Echo & the Bunnymen.
The Last Shadow Puppets: The Age Of The Understatement
While touring with the Arctic Monkeys, Miles Kane and their lead singer Alex Turner started writing songs together backstage. They realized they had a great songwriting team and decided to form a new band called the Last Shadow Puppets. The two musicians traveled to France with producer James Ford. They recorded their first album, The Age of the Understatement, in just two weeks.
Their album quickly reached number 1 on the UK Album Charts. The song "The Age of the Understatement" also hit number 1 on the Indie Single Charts. The band played their first live show in the UK as a surprise performance at Glastonbury. Jack White even joined them on stage. The album won the Mojo Breakthrough Award. In December 2015, it was announced that their second album would be released in spring 2016.
The Last Shadow Puppets: Everything You've Come To Expect
Rumors about a new album from The Last Shadow Puppets started in 2015. In October 2015, Owen Pallett, who helped with the string music on their first album, confirmed they were working on a second one. In November 2015, producer James Ford said the second album was finished.
In January 2016, the band released their first new song since 2008, called "Bad Habits". A music video came out with it. Later that month, they announced their second album would be named Everything You've Come to Expect. All three original band members returned, and Zach Dawes joined as the bass player. The title song, "Everything You've Come to Expect", was released in March 2016. Other songs like "Aviation" and "Miracle Aligner" followed. The album was released in April 2016.
Solo Music Career
In early 2009, after his last tour with the Rascals, Miles Kane decided to focus on making music by himself. He signed with Columbia Records and started recording his first solo album. He worked with producers Dan Carey and Dan the Automator, who had worked with bands like Gorillaz and Kasabian.
Colour of the Trap
Miles Kane's first solo song, "Inhaler", was released in November 2010. He played several solo shows that month and also opened for the Courteeners in December. He continued playing solo shows in early 2011 and supported Beady Eye on their tour in March. His next song, "Come Closer", came out in February 2011 and reached No. 85 on the UK Singles Chart. "Rearrange", the third song from his first album, was released in March 2011.
His first album, Colour of the Trap, was released in May 2011. The song "My Fantasy" features backup singing from Noel Gallagher. Another song, "Happenstance", is a duet with French actress Clémence Poésy. Half of the songs on the album were co-written by Alex Turner, his bandmate from the Last Shadow Puppets. Miles Kane also opened for the Arctic Monkeys at some of their shows in 2011 and 2012. He also supported Kasabian on their UK tour in December 2011.
Don't Forget Who You Are
In February 2013, Miles Kane released an EP called Give Up. In March 2013, he announced his second album, Don't Forget Who You Are, would be released that spring. A UK tour was also announced for May and June to go along with the album. In April 2013, he released the song "Don't Forget Who You Are". This song included a B-side called "Get Right", which he wrote with Alex Turner.
The album was released in June 2013 and reached No. 8 on the UK charts. It was produced by Ian Broudie from The Lightning Seeds. Two songs on the album, "Fire in My Heart" and "You're Gonna Get It", were co-written with Paul Weller. Miles Kane performed at Glastonbury 2013 and later joined the Arctic Monkeys on stage for their song "505". Two more songs from the album, "Taking Over" and "Better Than That", were released later in 2013. In 2015, Miles Kane sang on the song "Johanna" for the movie Mortdecai, which was a collaboration with Mark Ronson.
Coup de Grace, The Jaded Hearts Club, and Change the Show
In September 2017, Miles Kane sang in a Beatles tribute band called Dr. Pepper's Jaded Hearts Club Band. Other members included Matt Bellamy from Muse and Ilan Rubin from Nine Inch Nails.
In March 2018, Miles Kane mentioned that his new album would likely be called Coup de Grace and would come out in summer 2018. In April 2018, he released "Loaded", the first song from Coup De Grace. The music video for it came out the next month.
In June 2018, Miles Kane officially announced that Coup De Grace would be released in August. The album's title song was also released that day. The following week, he announced a tour in Europe for October 2018. Zach Dawes, Tyler Parkford, and Loren Humphrey, who play live with The Last Shadow Puppets, performed on most of the album and helped write three songs with Kane.
In November 2019, Miles Kane opened for Liam Gallagher on his UK and Ireland tour.
Miles Kane was featured on the song "Dealer" from Lana Del Rey's album, Blue Banisters. He wrote the song with Lana Del Rey in 2017 for a possible album they planned to make together. His singing was not officially credited on her album.
Miles Kane's fifth solo album, One Man Band, was released in August 2023. This album was special because it was his first time working with his cousins Ian and James Skelly. Ian played drums, and James produced the album.
