Exploring Newark's Location and Land
Newark is found at the very top of Caledonia County in Vermont. It shares its borders with several other towns. To the south is Burke, and to the west is Sutton. On its northwest side, you'll find Westmore. To the north is Brighton, and to the northeast is Ferdinand. Finally, East Haven is to the southeast.
How Big is Newark?
The United States Census Bureau says that Newark covers a total area of about 96.4 square kilometers (37.2 square miles). Most of this area, about 95.2 square kilometers (36.8 square miles), is land. The rest, about 1.2 square kilometers (0.5 square miles), is water. This means water makes up about 1.25% of the town's total area.
Roads and Travel
You can travel through Newark using Vermont Route 114. This road goes north to Island Pond in Brighton. If you go south, it leads to Lyndonville. Another road, Vermont Route 5A, crosses the western part of Newark. It goes north past Lake Willoughby to Derby and south to U.S. Route 5 in West Burke.
Newark's Highest Spot
The highest point in Newark is a hill that doesn't have a name. It's about 2,362 feet (720 meters) tall. This high spot is located near the border with Westmore, to the west of Abbott Hill Road.
