Neyruz-sur-Moudon was a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It was located in the canton of Vaud, within the Gros-de-Vaud area.

On January 1, 2013, Neyruz-sur-Moudon joined with several other nearby towns. These towns included Chapelle-sur-Moudon, Correvon, Denezy, Martherenges, Peyres-Possens, Saint-Cierges, Thierrens, and Chanéaz. Together, they formed a brand new municipality named Montanaire.

History of Neyruz-sur-Moudon

Neyruz-sur-Moudon has a long history! It was first mentioned in official records way back in 1147. At that time, it was known by slightly different names, like Noeruls or Nuruls.

It wasn't until 1953 that the town officially started using the name Neyruz-sur-Moudon.

Geography and Landscape

In 2009, Neyruz-sur-Moudon covered an area of about 3.5 square kilometers (1.35 square miles). Most of this land, almost 70%, was used for farming. About 26% of the area was covered by forests.

A smaller part, around 3.4%, was developed with buildings and roads. The forests were mostly dense, thick woods. For farming, nearly half the land was used for growing crops. The rest was used as pastures for animals.

Before 2006, Neyruz-sur-Moudon was part of the Moudon District. When that district was closed, Neyruz-sur-Moudon became part of the new Gros-de-Vaud district.

The town is located along the main road that connects Moudon to Yverdon-les-Bains. Neyruz-sur-Moudon itself was a haufendorf village. This means it was an unplanned village with buildings packed closely around a central area. It also included smaller settlements like La Praire, Les Rutannes, and Le Moulin Tardy.

Coat of Arms

Many residents were born in Neyruz-sur-Moudon or elsewhere in the Vaud canton. About 12.5% were born in other parts of Switzerland. Around 8.3% of the population were born outside of Switzerland.

Education

About 11.7% of the people had gone on to higher education. This means they attended a university or a specialized college called a Fachhochschule. Most of these highly educated individuals were Swiss men.

In the 2009/2010 school year, there were 14 students in the Neyruz-sur-Moudon school district. The Vaud canton provides two years of optional pre-school. The primary school program lasts for four years, and there were 13 students in primary school. The lower secondary school program lasts for six years, and there was 1 student in secondary school.

In 2000, some students from other towns came to school in Neyruz-sur-Moudon. However, more residents from Neyruz-sur-Moudon went to schools outside their own town.
