Park Chan-yeol (Hangul: 박찬열), known as Chanyeol, is a South Korean rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, actor, and model. He was born on November 27, 1992. Chanyeol is a member of the popular K-pop boy group Exo. He is also part of Exo's sub-group Exo-K and sub-unit Exo-SC. Chanyeol started his solo music career on August 28, 2024, with his first album called Black Out. Besides music, he has acted in TV shows and movies like So I Married an Anti-fan (2016) and Secret Queen Makers (2018).

Early Life and Music Journey
Park Chan-yeol grew up in Seoul, South Korea. He has an older sister named Park Yoo-ra. When he was 16, he joined an acting school.
Chanyeol became interested in music after watching the movie School of Rock in elementary school. He started playing the drums. He also wanted to be a singer after hearing a song by Yoo Young-jin. Chanyeol looked up to artists like Jason Mraz and Eminem. He also liked rock bands such as Muse and Green Day.
Chanyeol joined SM Entertainment as a trainee in 2008. He won second place in a model contest. While training, he focused on rapping. Before his debut, he appeared in music videos for groups like TVXQ and Girls' Generation.
Music Career Highlights
Becoming a K-Pop Star
Chanyeol was the last member of Exo to be introduced to the public on February 23, 2012. Exo officially started their career on April 8, 2012, with their first album, Mama. Chanyeol has a deep singing voice, known as a baritone.
In 2013, Chanyeol joined the TV reality show Law of the Jungle. He even wrote a song for the show called "Last Hunter" in 2015. In 2014, he wrote rap lyrics for Exo's song "Run." He also appeared on the reality show Roommate but left due to his busy schedule.
Acting and Songwriting
In 2015, Chanyeol started acting in movies. His first movie was Salut d'Amour. He also starred in the web-drama Exo Next Door with other Exo members. Chanyeol helped write the Korean lyrics for Exo's song "Promise." He also wrote the rap for "Lightsaber," a song for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
In 2016, Chanyeol wrote rap lyrics for Yesung's song "Confession." He also helped write the lyrics for Exo's song "Heaven." Chanyeol starred in the movie So I Married an Anti-fan and sang a duet for its soundtrack. He also worked with American artists Far East Movement and Marshmello on the song "Freal Luv." A very popular song he worked on was "Stay With Me" for the TV drama Guardian: The Lonely and Great God. This song became very successful.
In 2017, Chanyeol acted in the TV drama Missing 9. He also worked with singer Junggigo on a song called "Let Me Love You." It was reported that he registered as a music producer using the name "LOEY."
In 2018, Chanyeol had a supporting role in the TV drama Memories of the Alhambra. He also released a song called "We Young" with fellow Exo member Sehun.
Solo Music and Exo-SC
On April 25, 2019, Chanyeol released his first solo song, "SSFW." On June 28, 2019, it was announced that Chanyeol and Sehun would form a sub-unit called Exo-SC. They released their first album, What a Life, on July 22, 2019.
In 2021, Chanyeol starred in the musical film The Box. He sang many popular songs in the movie.
On October 20, 2023, Chanyeol released his solo song "Good Enough." In February 2024, he joined the cast of the Netflix series The Frog, which was released on August 23, 2024.
Chanyeol officially debuted as a solo artist on August 28, 2024, with his album Black Out. He also started his first solo concert tour, "2024 Chanyeol Live Tour: City-scape," in Seoul in September 2024.
Personal Life
Chanyeol studied at Kyung Hee Cyber University and later took graduate studies in interior design at Inha University.
He completed his mandatory military service in South Korea. He joined the military on March 29, 2021, and was discharged on September 28, 2022.
