Park Chan-yeol (Hangul: 박찬열; born November 27, 1992), known as Chanyeol, is a South Korean artist. He is a talented rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, actor, and model. Chanyeol is a member of the popular K-pop boy group Exo. He is also part of Exo's sub-group Exo-K and sub-unit Exo-SC. In August 2024, he released his first solo music album, called Black Out. Besides his music with Exo, Chanyeol has acted in many TV shows and movies. Some of his well-known roles are in So I Married an Anti-fan (2016) and Secret Queen Makers (2018).

Early Life and Training
Park Chan-yeol was born in Seoul, South Korea. He went to Hyundai High School in Apgujeong-dong. Chanyeol has an older sister named Park Yoo-ra, who used to be a TV announcer.
When he was sixteen, Chanyeol joined a private acting school. He became good friends with Block B's P.O there. Chanyeol became interested in music after watching the movie School of Rock in elementary school. He soon started playing the drums. He decided he wanted to be a singer after hearing a song by Yoo Young-jin.
Chanyeol looks up to artists like Jason Mraz and Eminem. In middle school, he also liked rock bands such as Muse, Green Day, Nirvana, and X Japan.
Chanyeol became a trainee at SM Entertainment in 2008. He won second place in a modeling contest, which helped him join the company. While training, he started focusing more on rapping. Before he officially debuted, Chanyeol appeared in music videos for TVXQ in 2008 and Girls' Generation in 2010.
Career Highlights
Starting Out (2012–2014)
Chanyeol was the last member of Exo to be introduced to the public. This happened on February 23, 2012. He has a deep singing voice, known as a baritone. Exo officially started their career on April 8 with their first album, Mama.
Chanyeol also appeared in the music video for "Twinkle" by Girls' Generation-TTS. In 2013, he joined the TV reality show Law of the Jungle. He even wrote a song called "Last Hunter" for the show in 2015. In 2014, he was a regular cast member on the TV show Roommate. He left the show later that year because he was too busy.
Acting, Songwriting, and Exo-SC (2015–2021)
In 2015, Chanyeol made his movie debut in Salut d'Amour. He also starred in the web-drama Exo Next Door with other Exo members. Chanyeol helped write the Korean version of the song "Promise" for Exo's album Love Me Right. He also wrote the rap for "Lightsaber", a song for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
In 2016, Chanyeol wrote a rap for a song by Yesung. He also helped write the lyrics for Exo's song "Heaven". Chanyeol starred in the movie So I Married an Anti-fan. He sang a duet called "I Hate You" for the movie's theme song. He also worked with Far East Movement and Marshmello on the song "Freal Luv". Later that year, Chanyeol and singer Punch released "Stay With Me". This song was for the drama Guardian: The Lonely and Great God and became very popular.
In 2017, Chanyeol had a supporting role in the drama Missing 9. He also worked with singer Junggigo on a song called "Let Me Love You". It was reported that he registered as a music producer under the name "LOEY."
In 2018, Chanyeol appeared in the drama Memories of the Alhambra. He also released a song called "We Young" with fellow Exo member Sehun.
In 2019, Chanyeol released his first solo song, "SSFW." He and Sehun then formed a sub-unit called Exo-SC. They released their first album, What a Life, in July 2019.
In 2021, Chanyeol starred in the musical road film The Box. The movie featured popular songs from artists like Coldplay and Billie Eilish.
Solo Debut and Recent Activities (2024–Present)
On October 20, 2023, Chanyeol released a solo song called "Good Enough." This was his first solo song since 2021.
In February 2024, it was announced that Chanyeol joined the Netflix series The Frog. The show is set to be released in August.
On July 27, 2024, SM Entertainment announced that Chanyeol would officially debut as a solo artist in August. He also started his first solo concert tour, "2024 Chanyeol Live Tour: City-scape." His debut solo album, Black Out, was released on August 28, 2024.
Personal Life
Chanyeol studied at Kyung Hee Cyber University and later at Inha University. He studied interior design.
Chanyeol served in the military as an active duty soldier. He started his service on March 29, 2021, and finished on September 28, 2022.
