Rudolf Schuster was born on January 4, 1934. He is a Slovak politician. He served as the second President of Slovakia from 1999 to 2004. He was chosen as president on May 29, 1999. His term officially began on June 15.
In 2004, he tried to be re-elected as president. However, he did not win. He was succeeded by Ivan Gašparovič.

Early Life and Career
Rudolf Schuster was born in a city called Košice in Slovakia. For many years, from 1964 to 1990, he was a member of the Communist Party.
Before he became president, he held several important jobs. He was the Mayor of Košice twice. First, from 1983 to 1986, and then again from 1994 to 1999.
He also served as the last Communist president of the Slovak National Council. This was a big role in the Slovak parliament. He held this position from 1989 to 1990.
Diplomatic Role
Rudolf Schuster also worked as an Ambassador. He represented Czechoslovakia in Canada. This was from 1990 to 1992. An ambassador is like a country's representative in another country.
Political Party and Languages
In 1998, Schuster started a political party. It was called the Party of Civic Understanding. He led this party from 1998 to 1999.
Rudolf Schuster is very good with languages. He speaks many languages fluently. These include German, Slovak, Czech, Russian, English, and Hungarian.
