In 2006, her parents passed away in a car accident. This left Sheyene with no living family. A year later, she was diagnosed with a very rare and serious illness. Doctors gave her only three months to live. She underwent three years of treatment and survived.
Sheyene loves racing. Her father, Edgar García, was a famous explorer and race-car driver in Venezuela. He won five races in a row before he died. In 1974, he led an expedition that found 11 new types of scorpions. One of them, Neochactas garciai, was named after him. Sheyene also loves sailing. She is a certified yacht captain and owns a yacht named after her in Florida.
