Taliqua Clancy, born on June 25, 1992, is an amazing Australian athlete. She plays both volleyball and beach volleyball. She even represented Australia at the 2016 Summer Olympics in beach volleyball! Taliqua made history as the very first Indigenous Australian volleyball player to compete for Australia at the Olympics. In beach volleyball, she plays a special role called a "left-side blocker."

Early Life and Training
Taliqua grew up in Kingaroy, Queensland, Australia. Her family has Indigenous Australian roots, specifically from the Wulli Wulli and Goreng Goreng peoples. She lived in Kingaroy for her first 15 years.
When she was younger, Taliqua was offered a scholarship for netball at the Australian Institute of Sport. But she chose a different path! Instead, she accepted a scholarship for beach volleyball at the Queensland Academy of Sport.
At 17, Taliqua received another scholarship from the Australian Institute of Sport. This meant she moved to Adelaide to join the national beach volleyball team program. In 2019, she moved back to her home state of Queensland and is now based in Brisbane.
Taliqua's Amazing Career
Taliqua Clancy has had a fantastic career in beach volleyball. She has competed in many big events around the world.
Olympic Games: Rio 2016
Taliqua competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her partner was Louise Bawden. They played really well and made it all the way to the quarter-finals!
Commonwealth Games: Gold Coast 2018
In 2018, Taliqua played in the 2018 Commonwealth Games held on the Gold Coast, Australia. Her new partner was Mariafe Artacho del Solar. They were a super strong team!
- They won all three of their first matches without losing a single set.
- They easily won their quarter-final match.
- In the semi-finals, they had a tough three-set match but won to reach the gold medal game.
In the final, they played against a very strong team from Canada. It was a very close and exciting match! Even though they didn't win gold, Taliqua and Mariafe earned a silver medal. This was a huge achievement for them at their first Commonwealth Games together.
World Championships: Hamburg 2019
Taliqua and Mariafe also competed in the 2019 World Championships in Hamburg, Germany. They had some challenging matches.
- They won their first match easily.
- They lost a close match to a Dutch team.
- They won a very tight match against an American team to move forward.
During their next match, Mariafe got an injury to her knee. Even with the injury, they showed incredible teamwork and won! They weren't sure if they could keep playing, but they did. They won another tough three-set match to reach the quarter-finals.
Reaching the quarter-finals was amazing, especially with Mariafe's injury. They kept fighting and won their quarter-final match against a Russian team. In the semi-finals, they lost to a strong American team. But they didn't give up! They played for the bronze medal and won! This was one of their best and most memorable achievements.
Olympic Games: Tokyo 2020
On August 4, 2021, Taliqua and Mariafe had a huge win at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. They beat the world's number-one team from Canada in the quarter-finals!
The next day, they won their semi-final match against Latvia. This meant they would play for the gold medal against the United States team. They played their best but earned the silver medal, which is an incredible achievement at the Olympics!
