Tyrol is a beautiful federal state in western Austria. A federal state is like a large region with its own government, but it's also part of a bigger country. Tyrol includes the Austrian part of the historic Princely County of Tyrol, which was a very old and important area. The capital city of Tyrol is Innsbruck.
The state of Tyrol is special because it's split into two main parts. There's North Tyrol and a smaller area called East Tyrol. These two parts are separated by a small piece of another Austrian state.
Tyrol is completely located within the Eastern Alps, which are huge mountains. It's also home to the important Brenner Pass. This pass is a mountain road that has been used for travel and trade for thousands of years. The highest mountain in Tyrol is the Großglockner, which is a very tall and impressive peak.
Tyrol's Districts and Capital City
Tyrol is divided into different areas called districts. Think of them like counties or regions within a state. There are eight districts, plus the city of Innsbruck, which is a district on its own. Each district has a main town or city that acts as its center.
Here are the districts and their main towns:
- Innsbruck (This is the capital city of Tyrol and its own district.)
- Innsbruck-Land (Its center is also Innsbruck.)
- Imst District (Its center is Imst.)
- Kitzbühel District (Its center is Kitzbühel.)
- Kufstein District (Its center is Kufstein.)
- Landeck District (Its center is Landeck.)
- Reutte District (Its center is Reutte.)
- Schwaz District (Its center is Schwaz.)
- Lienz District (Its center is Lienz. This district is part of East Tyrol.)
