Big Fire in China
In June, a huge fire happened in Hangzhou, which was the capital city of the Song Dynasty in China. This fire was very destructive, burning down about 13,000 homes. Many people had to leave their houses and find safety in the nearby hills.
Because of this and other large fires, the government decided to create a strong firefighting team for the city. They also helped the people by temporarily removing taxes on things like bamboo and wood. They gave out 120 tons of rice to those who were poor and stopped collecting rent for homes for a while.
Battles and Leaders
- On July 24, a battle called the Battle of Nocera took place. In this fight, a leader named Ranulf II of Alife won against Roger II of Sicily.
- Tughril II began his rule over the country of Iraq.
- The country of Champa (which is now part of Vietnam) invaded Vietnam again.
- Under the Song Dynasty, China created its first ever permanent navy this year. The main office for the admiral (the navy's leader) was set up in a place called Dinghai.
