Big Events of the 1770s
America's Fight for Freedom
The most famous event was when the United States Declaration of Independence was officially approved. This happened on July 4, 1776. This document was a brave statement. It said that the American colonies wanted to be free from Great Britain.
A special group of people wrote this important paper. They were John Adams from Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin from Pennsylvania, and Thomas Jefferson from Virginia. Also on the committee were Robert R. Livingston from New York and Roger Sherman from Connecticut.
New Leader in Persia
In 1779, a new ruler came to power in Persia. His name was Abol Fath Khan. He became the second Shah, or king, of the Zand dynasty. A dynasty is when power stays in the same family for many years.
