Atlantis: Milo's Return is an animated science-fiction movie from 2003. It's a sequel to the popular 2001 film, Atlantis: The Lost Empire. This movie was made by DisneyToon Studios and was released directly to video on May 20, 2003.
The movie was originally planned as three episodes for a TV show called Team Atlantis. But the show was never finished. So, the creators added some new animation to connect the three stories into one movie.
Many of the original voice actors came back for this film. These include Cree Summer (Kida), Corey Burton (Mole), Don Novello (Vinny), Phil Morris (Dr. Sweet), Jacqueline Obradors (Audrey), John Mahoney (Whitmore), and Florence Stanley (Wilhelmina). James Arnold Taylor took over the voice of Milo from Michael J. Fox. Steve Barr became the voice of Cookie, replacing Jim Varney, who had passed away. This was also the last film for Florence Stanley, who died a few months after it was made.

Story of the Movie
After the city of Atlantis sank, Kida (Cree Summer) became Queen. She married Milo Thatch (James Arnold Taylor). Kida uses the powerful Heart of Atlantis to bring her city back to its former glory.
Suddenly, Milo's friends and Mr. Whitmore (John Mahoney) arrive in Atlantis. The Atlanteans are happy to see their old friends. But the visitors bring bad news. A strange creature is causing trouble on the surface world. Kida thinks the creature might be from Atlantis.
The Kraken Mystery
The team travels to Trondheim, Norway. They find out the mysterious creature is the Kraken. This giant sea monster has been attacking ships. It takes their cargo to a village on a cliff. At first, they think it's an old Atlantean war machine. But they soon learn that a man named Edgar Volgud (Clancy Brown) seems to be controlling the Kraken.
However, they discover that the Kraken is actually in charge. It made a deal with Volgud. When they defeat the Kraken, Volgud disappears. The spirit of the village is then restored.
Desert Spirits
While on their adventures, Kida learns a lot about the world outside Atlantis. She feels bad because there might be other Atlantean war machines causing problems. Their next mystery takes them to the Southwestern United States. Here, they face strange coyote spirits.
They find a hidden city in Arizona. It has a statue that looks very much like Atlantean buildings. A tricky shop owner, Ashton Carnaby (Thomas F. Wilson), wants to steal treasures from this place. But the spirits turn him into one of them. A Native American wind spirit named Chakashi (Floyd Red Crow Westerman) shares his knowledge. He tells Kida that she can choose Atlantis' future.
The Norse God
Back home, the adventurers learn about Erik Hellstrom (W. Morgan Sheppard). He was an old rival of Mr. Whitmore. Hellstrom believes he is the Norse god Odin. One night, he steals an ancient spear called the Gungnir. This spear might be an Atlantean artifact.
They track him to the cold Nordic Mountains. Hellstrom thinks Milo is Loki, the God of Mischief. He also believes Kida is his lost daughter, Brünnhilde. "Odin" uses the spear to send Milo, Mole, Vinny, and Audrey away. He then kidnaps Kida and dresses her in Norse clothes. He plans to end the world in Ragnarok. He creates a lava beast and an ice beast to destroy everything.
But Vinny uses explosives to distract the monsters. This gives Kida a chance to get the spear back. She uses it to defeat the beasts. During these events, Kida truly understands how powerful the Atlantean Crystal is. She realizes she must decide whether to keep it hidden or share its power with humanity.
Atlantis Rises
After getting the spear, Kida understands her father was wrong to hide the Crystal. She combines the spear with the Heart Crystal. This causes Atlantis to rise out of the water! Two fishermen are shocked to see an entire city appear before them. For the first time in over 9,000 years, Atlantis is above the water. Mr. Whitmore says that from that day on, the world became a better place.

Team Atlantis Television Series
This movie was originally planned as a TV series called Team Atlantis. The show would have explored different legends. For example, there were plans for episodes about Puck, the Loch Ness Monster, and the Terracotta Warriors.
One episode that was never animated would have featured Demona from the TV show Gargoyles. The writer, Greg Weisman, later used this story idea for the Gargoyles comic book series.
