Aubrey is a city located in Denton County, Texas, in the United States. In 2020, about 5,000 people lived there. It's sometimes called "Horse Country, U.S.A." because of the many horse ranches nearby.

Discovering Aubrey's Past

Aubrey officially started as a town in 1867. A man named Lemuel Noah Edwards, who was a veteran from the Civil War, built one of the first houses there. He later gave land to his ten children so they could build their own homes. The Edwards family helped the town grow in many ways. They even had singing gatherings at their home.

The Railway Arrives

In 1881, the Texas and Pacific Railway built a train track and a station in Aubrey. This helped the town connect with other places and grow.

Building Schools and Churches

Lemuel Edwards also helped build the community. In 1885, he offered land to any church that would build a place of worship within a year. In 1882, he and Louis Caddel Sr. gave land for the town's first one-room schoolhouse.

From Peanuts to Horses

For a long time, Aubrey was famous for its peanut farms. Many farms grew peanuts in the areas around the town. However, by 2009, horse ranches became more common. Today, new houses are being built where some of the old peanut farms used to be.
