Bunnicula is an American animated TV show from Warner Bros. Animation. It was created by Jessica Borutski and is based on the popular children's book series by James and Deborah Howe. The show first aired on Cartoon Network and Boomerang on February 6, 2016.

This fun show is a dark comedy about a special vampire rabbit named Bunnicula. Instead of drinking blood, he drinks carrot juice! This juice gives him amazing super abilities for all sorts of paranormal adventures. New episodes used to air on both Cartoon Network and Boomerang at the same time. The series was so popular that it was picked up for a second and third season in 2017.

You can watch Bunnicula on Boomerang's streaming service. The first season is also available to buy on YouTube in the United States. The third season first aired on the Boomerang network from December 1 to December 30, 2018. Even after the series ended, Boomerang continued to show reruns as of 2021.

What's the Story?

After moving to New Orleans with her dad and pets, Chester and Harold, a girl named Mina Monroe finds a special key. Her late Aunt Marie left it for her. Mina uses the key to open a secret cellar in the Orlock Apartments.

Inside, she frees a vampire rabbit named Bunnicula! This rabbit gets his powers by drinking juice from vegetables instead of blood. Mina doesn't know he's a vampire, so she adopts him. Bunnicula becomes a new member of the Monroe family. The show mostly follows Chester and Harold as they join Bunnicula on his supernatural adventures. Bunnicula is usually the only one who can solve the strange problems they face.

Meet the Characters

Main Characters

  • Bunnicula (voiced by Chris Kattan) - He's the main character, a vampire Dutch rabbit. He used to be Count Dracula's pet! His name is a mix of "Bunny" and "Dracula." Bunnicula was found in a locked cellar in Mina's new apartment building. He has many vampire traits, like sleeping in a coffin and flying with bat wings. He gets his strength by drinking juice from vegetables with his fangs. Bunnicula doesn't speak much English, but Harold usually understands him and translates for Chester. He really cares for Mina. However, he often causes mischief that leads to supernatural problems. Different vegetables give Bunnicula different powers! For example, large carrots make his vision super strong. Garlic turns him into a skeleton bunny. Ghost peppers make him breathe fire.
  • Chester (voiced by Sean Astin) - Mina's pet cat. Chester is often annoyed with Bunnicula, mostly because he's scared of all the monsters and strange things that happen. He's a good thinker, but he never seems to learn from his mistakes! Chester loves sudoku and jazz music. He looks like a Siamese cat.
  • Harold (voiced by Brian Kimmet) - Mina's pet dog. He loves his friends Chester, Bunnicula, and Mina. Harold isn't the smartest, but he's the only one who can fully understand Bunnicula. He often translates for him. Harold is very loyal and values his friendships. He looks like a brown mutt.
  • Mina Monroe (voiced by Kari Wahlgren) - A 13-year-old girl who moved to New Orleans, Louisiana with her dad. She found the key that freed Bunnicula. Mina's style is punk alternative, and she loves rock music and horror movies. She usually doesn't notice the supernatural things happening around her. But in one episode, "Oh, Brother," Mina finally sees Bunnicula flying and drinking carrot juice. Instead of being scared, she's amazed and loves him even more!

Other Characters

  • Arthur Monroe (voiced by Chris Kattan) - Mina's father. He moved with Mina to New Orleans after inheriting an apartment. He is often called "Mina's Dad." His face is rarely shown completely.
  • Marsha (voiced by Monie Mon) - Mina's careful and shy best friend. She is often the only human who notices the strange supernatural events.
  • Becky (voiced by Kate Higgins) - Mina's other best friend. Becky is often sarcastic and acts like a typical teenager.
  • Scott Dingleman (voiced by Scott Menville) - Mina's crush. He likes many of the same things as Mina. Bunnicula, Chester, and Harold once accidentally erased Scott's memories. They later restored them, and now Scott can understand the pets, but he keeps it a secret!
  • Madame Polidori (voiced by Grey Griffin) - She owns a shop full of supernatural objects. Madame Polidori often has dangerous items for sale. She doesn't like children or pets in her shop.
  • Patches the Weredude (voiced by Eric Bauza) - A relaxed and fun-loving weredude. Patches often forgets he's a weredude and acts like a cat even when he's in human form. He moved into the Orlock Apartments.
  • Lugosi (voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz) - A strange and crazy guinea pig who wants to serve Bunnicula. At first, he was an enemy, but now he's an ally. Lugosi was adopted by Marsha. He still calls Bunnicula his master and helps him and his friends.
  • Fluffy (voiced by Sumalee Montano) - A Doberman Pinscher who hunts vampires. She was an enemy to Bunnicula at first, but later became a close friend. Fluffy is a funny reference to the show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
  • Bunnicula's Brother (voiced by Chris Kattan) - Bunnicula's younger brother. Instead of drinking vegetable juice, he sucks the life force from supernatural creatures. This gives him his own special powers.
