Fabiana's Amazing Career
Fabiana Murer started setting records early in her career. In June 2008, she set a new South American record with a jump of 4.80 meters in São Paulo. This was a huge achievement!
Olympic Challenges and Triumphs
At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Fabiana faced a tough challenge. One of her poles went missing during the competition! This made it hard for her to perform her best, and she finished tenth.
In June 2009, she broke her own outdoor record, jumping 4.82 meters. This jump helped her win her fifth Brazilian championship. She then won a silver medal at the 2009 IAAF World Athletics Final.
Fabiana achieved a major victory at the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships. She jumped 4.80 meters, winning her first world championship! She kept improving, setting a new indoor record of 4.83 meters in Birmingham, UK. Later that year, she set another outdoor record of 4.85 meters in Spain. This made her one of the best pole vaulters ever.
She also did very well in the 2010 IAAF Diamond League, winning three events. This made her the first winner of the women's pole vault in the Diamond League.
Becoming a World Champion
In 2011, Fabiana made history! She became the first Brazilian to win the IAAF World Championship. She jumped 4.85 meters in Daegu, South Korea, showing her incredible skill.
However, the 2012 Summer Olympics were disappointing for her. She didn't make it to the finals, struggling with the wind conditions.
Later Career and Injuries
Fabiana bounced back in 2014, winning the 2014 IAAF Diamond League circuit again. In 2015, she earned two silver medals: one at the 2015 Pan American Games and another at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics. In the World Championships, she matched her personal best of 4.85 meters.
On July 3, 2016, Fabiana set a new personal best and South American record of 4.87 meters in Brazil. This was just before the 2016 Summer Olympics in her home country. Sadly, she then felt pain in her neck. Tests showed she had a spinal disc injury. Even after a lot of physical therapy, she wasn't fully recovered for the Olympics. She couldn't clear the first height, which was very tough for her.
